Considering returning, few questions, will my character still be there etc?
Hi everyone, I was playing The Secret World but have become bored (its a new game and currently not a great depth of content). I've kind of got a tempting feeling to play final fantasy online again. I tried to regain access to my FFXI account but even though I wrote down my details from last time I played, the merge of play online accounts to square enix accounts has done something thats not letting me log in. So I thought I'd try the trial 14 days on ffxi instead to see if it was how i remembered it. ffxi took so long to download, install, jump through hoops trying to register then sat patching telling me it was going to take over 10 hours! Wondering how many people were still actually playing a 10 yr old game I closed the window. Then I realised I still have ffxiv installed on my pc, now I played quite a bit when the game was in its early days. I played when they made the game free because they didnt want to lose players by charging for a broken game. The launch of SWTOR (yeah I know big mistake) cooincided with the date they made FFXIV pay to play again so I ended up unsubscribing. I keep reading in my facebook feed about version 2.0 and I like the sound of it. I still have my square enix ID details and can log-in to the account management page. How easy is it to get subscribed back to FFXIV, my main concern is will my old character still be there? Has the game improved enough to justify the subscription fee? Are there any advantages to playing now before v2.0 is released? I can't even remember which server I used to play on, do you think it will it be easy to get back into, find some friends, possibly join a linkshell? Thanks for your help.

It's pretty easy, just go to the services menu then Options I believe on the account management website, update your payment method (they accept direct payment now instead of crysta) and renew. Your old character should still be there.
Even if it isn't I wouldn't worry unless you'd made a lot of progress - the servers are being shut down for the 2.0 beta in September (they are transferring our current ones over while they conduct the beta, which means brand new characters for 2.0 beta testing). -

I was able to "un-cancel" my account without putting in billing information. This let me log in as far as the character select screen and I could see my character there. Turns out im on Saronia server. I went back to the account page and updated my payment details and now its let me log in (hooray). I like how you can just use any card through global collect now without having to worry about setting up that click and buy thing. Now I just need to remember how to play! I can't remember what I was doing last time I played but my character is a level 10 archer with level 25 fishing >_Comment

Thanks for the info and help. I've already noticed a lot of new and good things. Im loving the new targetting options (like finally being able to turn action sub-targets off). Ive also noticed there seems to be ffxi style jobs listed next to the weapons like thaumaturge = blm and conjurer = whm, even though I have no idea what it means as an ex ffxi-er I like these touches very muchOriginally posted by Malacite View Post
