Re: New Eorzea interview with new information, shocking discoveries, and a train?

I see summons in the vein of Relics: shit you shouldn't expect to get unless you're part of the 1%. They're not trying to create a class here, and they're certainly not trying to make this accessible. They just changed the shape of the carrot they dangle in front of the faces of the elite endgame players, that's all.

I feel like you didn't read the entire interview, or the thread. The primals wont have one set spawn point, and they'll wander. It wont be a million people running a voke bot, with their heads spinning in circles as the tab bot cycles through targets.

So it's Dark Ixion/Sandworm instead of Fafnir. Even better.

Or Odin, I suppose? At the end of the day, it's just another design decision. They want to give the players who've reached the end of their progression something dynamic to take part in. The idea of tracking down a massive creature, enslaving it, feeding it power, then unleashing it against something sounds reasonably exciting.

If they want to add Summoner to game, I'm completely confident that they have enough brain cells to come up with unique, lesser avatars for the players to work with. You may not be unleashing Ifrit, Ramuh, Shiva, or the rest of the gang from FFXI against anybody, but I'd assume there would be alternatives that are just as good.

You're not hitting your mew quota, so I think you're not in danger of that.

I'm not arguing, I stated it's weird to play a MMO in hopes of a job that doesn't exist. And I don't think you fucked up. I just think you're making an irrational decision based upon an interview that has 1-2 paragraphs about this job you want to play. No one knows yet what summoer will actually entail. Yoshi himself said nothings been finalized, these are just ideas atm. In no way am I trying to discount all the work you put into the LS. If you're looking for a way out, which is what it looks like after reading your wall of text, your reason for leaving makes alot more sense than your reasoning behind the initial description of what the summoner job "could be." Having an LS "full" of people that don't participate is discouraging and makes the game solo and not fun when an LS is designed to be a community. That is a good reason to leave.

Oh, and @ Ray, D&D is a blast! Always looking forward to it!

If you read my comments carefully you'd see that I'm not irrationally quitting. I'm just not planning to give them any more time or money until I know that SMN will end up being a job I give a crap about. In the meantime... while these rumors are spinning around... I have no intention of continuing to contribute money to a horrible idea.

Re: New Eorzea interview with new information, shocking discoveries, and a train?

I'm not entirely against the concept, but they are taking a very special and beloved aspect of the series and basically saying "fuck you" to the majority of players. The summons are just one of those things about FF that make it magical and we all love, and to take something so cherished by the fans and then turn into this carrot & stick BS aimed at the 1% of really hardcore/asshat with legions of dumbass followers players is infuriating - especially when they have plans to release SMN as a class eventually as well. It's adding insult to injury to outright deny the use of the most iconic abilities.

And I say again, I do not want SMN as a pet class again. It was kinda cool in 10 having them replace the rest of the party, but they just fail as pets. In order to make them a pet they have to be toned down way too much and it cheapens the experience. I'd much rather play the class the way it's traditionally worked and have the satisfaction of having had a big impact during a critical moment in a battle (plus all the cool shiny effects that go along with it). THAT is what the Primals are going to offer, and it's just seriously lame to restrict something like that, especially with the series most beloved and recognizable characters.

Because giving a job a super-powerful, low-use spell worked out so well in FFXI.

I agree. High spike damage on demand is always a recipe for abuse no matter the cooldown.

FFXIV Summoners might work like FFIV and Final Fantasy Tactics, with a mix of FFXI's wide range of summon abilities, mew.

The summons could still use big time 2 hr like spells (for the big cooldown skills), but can range from low tier to high tier type of summon spells, mew. So they can appear, do a special skill, and then go away. That actually could still make them as useful as BLMs depending on the potency of each Summon's skills/abilities.

They won't be Ifrit, Shiva, etc.
but it's not hard to invent original Summoner class Summons (like FF12) or borrow the many summons that have yet to appear outside of Final Fantasy 6.
(Terrator, Shoat, Zoneseek, Tritoch, Sraphim, Starlet, etc.)

FFXIV SMN doesn't necessarily mean all their Summons will be Moogle sized beings.

Let me clarify: I want game balance and as long as SMNs still have a line of unique avatars to call their own, I'm fine with what they'll do with these "super fine ass avatars that can only be used by 1 LS at a time" carrot for the elites to fight over and have fun in. My only concern was leaving the SMNs in a state where they aren't on even parity with the other "classes".

Then again ... not sure where SE is going with the whole jobs/class in 2.0 either. They never put anything in stone and we'll have to wait for their "big announcement" in July/August.

Not sure why SMN is such a hard job to implement... Just make them like a BLM with Fancy-Special-Effects-One-Shot DMG Summons and a buff/debuff-effect thrown in afterward; along with a permanent summon for small DPS and added passive ability.

                                Problem solved.
