  • Screenshots of 2.0: In-game/art!

    Thought I'd share.

Hard to tell too much from these shots, but it looks like the environments will have the biggest change in IQ, at least up close.

Yeah... PS3 or bust. There's no way I'd be able to afford a PC to run it at those settings.

Hm, the Final Fantasy XIV title on each screenshot looks like it was added in by a third-party. If it wasn't, it would be a little concerning. Instead of it being the roman numeral XIV, it appears more like X|V, which might hint to them foregoing the old XIV (and accompanying reputation) and bumping it up to XV.

I like it. It kind of looks like FFXIV meets Wow. I never played Wow, but the action bar and UI looks like the screen shots I've seen.

I'm not sure if I like it. I like the small tweak in texturing they did to character models, but the environments... They look too low grade compared to what we have now. Just looks like FFXI environments in high definition.

Yeah, that was the biggest change I noticed. Environments look like they got a downgrade, at least up close.
In the back of my head I'm hoping this is PS3 hardware, and there's still some room to pump up the juice for PC users.

The environments don't look any different than they did before, piece by piece. The only difference I'm seeing is that they aren't so copy and paste.

Looking good ... also I like the graphics I hope I don't need to upgrade to Sandy Bridge just yet; but if I have to, I would.

I'll wait for more screenshots, but the graphics whore in me has noticed that the little things seem to have a noticeable drop in resolution/quality, specifically the grass, ground and trees (at least compared to the way XIV looks on my machine now).
It's all about the total look though, and how it all comes together, which I think it does well. XI had a lot of character in its appearance, even with the laughably low res environments. So far though, I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing in 2.0, and hoping it runs better for people everywhere.

The environments and UI do look much more interesting though.

They can drop poly counts on environmentals like grass while keeping it good looking through HD textures. The PS3 may not be able to handle them but if SE is serious about giving the game proper support we can expect high res texture options for the PC client.

If not then it's XI all over again. "Console limitations", "similar experience for all" and all that crap.

                        Performance > graphics.

It still already looks better than FFXI. I think people spoiled by FFXIV graphics as they are now aren't considering the new 2.0 graphics will help smoothen the framerate better and allow showing more players at once, mew.

Be grateful it doesn't graphically look like Vagrant Story, and even that artistically looks better than many things with more polygons and resolutions.

So ya the art still expresses great appearance and wonderful presentation, mew.

Besides, graphics are one of the last things mmorpg communities care about. and it looks better than anything WoW has (and yet WoW is still popular despite its outdated graphics)

That doesn't in any way convince me to spend my money on it once my sub expires. This isn't some obscure F2P game but something I've already spent money on and that I have a current sub for.

But if it convinces other people more power to SE.
