Besides, graphics are one of the last things mmorpg communities care about.
You'd be surprised to know how wrong you are with this one statement. I used to think like you until I actually saw polls in other communities and other games and came to the conclusion that MMO players are the most demanding of them all. They want BOTH performance AND graphics and they don't give a **** that a company have legitimate reasons for not having both.

I'm with you 1/2 way. Only because there's no excuse to not be able to have good graphics in this day and age. No one should be plugging DirectX 8 level graphics for an MMO

Right-o.
For me, I feel if I'm going to be spending hundreds of hours there, I'd at least like something pretty to look at. I think MMOs need either stellar art direction (which XI had in spades) or damn pretty graphics. On a whim, I picked up XI instead of WoW mainly because of the way it looked. It is important.
If these screens and art are anything to go by, I think 2.0 is heading in the right direction. That art is fantastic.

I'm just salivating over those screens at this point. Let's hope it isn't some "mockup" only to dash our hopes with something that looks like it belongs on the PS2.

Damn, despite the shitty video quality, those are fantastic graphics.
EDIT: OMG you can jump while on chocobos! And you can even leap over small gates and stuff... they said it was just going to be an emote, with no actual platforming. Guess they changed their minds! The new UI is pretty cool, though I like the aesthetics of the current gear menu better.
Also Gridania is looking a lot more like Windurst now.
EDIT 2: Oh nifty, they added in a horse-trotting sound for chocobos on the move. Now they're going into a dungeon it looks like (speaking of which, why'd they take the dungeon battle theme for overworld fights? Nail of the Gods better still be in 2.0)
EDIT 3: WTF METEOR SKILLCHAIN?!
EDIT 4: I think Yoshi just said you get into the 14 beta by buying FF7 PC...

Haha, yeah. Meteor caught me by surprise too.
Overall I'm VERY impressed with the way things are looking. Sh*tty quality be damned, it still looks awesome. I'm really hoping for a better quality video though.
D'oh. I haven't heard enough about the FF7 on PC to warrant any actual interest, but that might force my hand.
