Re: Letter from the Producer XXIX (3rd Player's Poll Analysis Part 2)

This is a game though... not work, I loved the way crafting was done in FFXI, although a bit random. FFXIV makes people do way to much to craft, it is ridiculous -.- I will admit that when the game first came out, I defended crafting/gathering and said it was different and fun...... but then I got my brain back -.- and realized how over complicated it all was. they can leave the crafting game in, but just make gathering stuff more like FFXI/WoW and it would still be fine.

Harvest Moon is one of those bizarre oddities and a real gem of gaming.

You wouldn't think a farming game would be fun but dear God... all the twats playing Farmville don't know what they're missing. Seriously, I want my online harvest moon game for 360/PS3 already.

Same excuse people used to dumb World of Warcraft to the point that those very same people say, "they're bored now; the game is too easy". You need to make sure you make the game accessible, but not so easy that no one wants to play it, because they get "bored'. Also, what is "work" and what is "game" is totally subjective. Person A might think the crafting system in Star Ocean 3 was too complex and too much work while Person B might think it was the best thing since sliced bread. The important thing here is the consensus of the populace and not the voice of "fringe" elements.

Unfortunately, even the consensus voice have gotten too much centered around "instant gratification" than actually playing ... an MMO game ... where it should involve some ... minimum amount of time sink.

MoP was suppose to ... have some elements of ... that.

Gardening in FFXI had similar elements ... but Harvest Moon just was far and away better at it.

Gardening in XI was the most maddening, random piece of shit ever and it needs to DIAF and be forgotten.

I never said it was good I just pointed out that there was an element of "harvesting" and "growing" but nowhere close to Harvest Moon. Although some players were really into it. I knew a girl who turned over 2-5 million gils a week just on those pots, back during the hyper hyperinflation days on Midgardsormr.

Far from it. She just had a lot of time on her hands to play the game. Now, if you want to know a gil seller, there was a player on Midgardsormr that was pulling in 100 million gils a week. How? Beats the fuck out of me. Even at the peak in the hyper hyperinflation days, that was still in astounding amount of gil to pull in. Even on Hades, Kyrie (spelling? don't remember), head of end game LS, didn't pull in more than 50 mil a week for the whole LS selling the HNM drops, rare mats, etc. We're talking one player, who lived in the US, supposedly an "ex-GM" and admitted to fish botting who pulled in more than a whole LS.

                      Edit:

Also anyone could've made a lot of gil in FFXI easy during those run away inflation days, especially with KCNM seals. My friend, a BST, pulled in 55 million in a week from seals collected over the course of one year waged on "KCNM Weekend". I, myself, had about 130 million gils worth of equipment at one point, before I gave it all away to friends after I quit the second time (but before the massive deflation)

Yeah back in those days a stack of Darksteel Inots would go for 1~1.2 mil in Jeuno and sell very quickly because of the high price & demand for haubs. I used to make a killing on that shit (also when Sandy was in 1st I could get mythril stupidly cheap at the docks to sell ingots as well. There was also 200k red moko grass, 75k beehive chips... I actually kinda miss it lol)

All you had to do was be diligent and the money would flow in hand over fist. That was where I fucked up big, because it looked like there was no end in sight so I just kept trying to level while dealing with inflated gear prices rather than hoarding away gil in the hopes of SE taking action (which they eventually did).

Anyhoo, I'm gonna hop on in a bit and do some serious craft grinding and skull-cracking on the lazy asshats paying lip service to the shell. Worst case scenario we break off and rename it if Yyg really isn't coming back because I honestly don't like having the shell holder out of commission (nothing against you personally bro).

I had that problem as well when I should've "cashed" out before the deflation hit. I still have stuff like VC, sniper's, SH, etc. but they're all worth less than shit now (or was early last year when I logged on and just couldn't get back into the game) Even just having 10 million gil in hand would be more than enough for me in FFXI now if I were to go back.

I'll log on FFXIV in a bit. It's Friday, but I work tomorrow (been working 6 days a week now) so I can't stay on too long. Plus the girls hijacked my PS3 so I basically just twiddle my thumbs at night

Ah I missed you. I was on until about 11 and no one else had popped on so I got off. Just 1 more leve and my CNJ will be 26 and then it's non-stop GLA grinding to 50. I'm putting all my crafts on hold (except possibly ARM but you're leveling that too aren't you?) because I want to be able to do these GC quests and get as much as the unique stuff that's only available now done. Besides it will be a lot easier grinding crafts at 50 when I can farm tougher mobs and rack up more seals to use on manuals.

We really should have weekly runs of totorak and the others to rack up seals. It'll make getting our crafts up a lot faster and well, there's nothing bad about having a lot of storm seals now is there

I have gotten zero seals. Where do you get them besides Totorak, or is that it? Can you only use them for manuals?

Some of the instanced dungeons have these drops where you can trade to the Grand Companies for seals. I can't remember off-hand the specifics of it all, but there was someone who joined our LS and registered on the forums here (and posted a couple of times) that can explain it all to you. I just haven't had time and the fortune to get into these things (end game content) so I'm the least qualified to answer your question. Maybe Dux or someone else can?
