    Re: Patch 1.21 Notes (08/03/2012)

There is only one quest required. You speak to the Inn Master, located in the same area as the Leve and Retainer NPCs. You will see a quest mark over the head of the Inn Master as you enter the area. I think it's available to everyone of every level. Short (at least for LL) and involves a fetching from another NPC and a short cutscene.

I just got my ass handed to me doing the Paladin quest. PRO-TIP: homepoint yourself at the nearest aetheryte before doing this. There's about 10 or so mobs level 32 to 34 and one very evil eye mob which hits you with a spell that does uber damage. Watch aggro as well, when it started, I was unlucky to have 5 mobs aggro me right away. Will be easier if you can obtain Shell to mitigate the spell damage. I was totally caught unawares and know better now. Ugh ... my return was back to LL.

Oh, obviously, if you're level 50, then this should be cake.

Tonight... I have some work to do. I have to get GLD up to 15 (didn't realize I never finished that) and do the Inn quest and the WHM quest. I'm so excited to start using advanced jobs :3

Now, if only Uematsu san went back and remade the cool battle songs from XI and ported them to XIV (and Prishe...)

But anyway, I'm finally able to take next week off to rest a bit. So I'll be playing Skyrim, XIV and other games heavily in the coming days.

Why are you people calling them advanced jobs?

          1) They're just jobs

          2) They're not "advanced", more like specialized roles/builds by SE for each class to help fulfill specific roles in party. I imagine Gladiator will see an offensive-styled job in the future for example.

oh even though there isn't jumping and climbing, ninjas can still still be sneaky in FFXIV, mew!

and maybe they will be more DD style this time? ninjutsu should only cost MP without needing costly tools. That wold make it more fair since the mages can recover magic without needing items. FFXI NIN's were like an extra step. You had to learn the scroll, and you have to supply with tools.

If NIN/Assassin takes high maintenance to use, then of course we will see most people switch to Samurai, mew.

Because they require prerequisites to unlock them... just as in FFXI. They were called advanced then... and they're called advanced now. Simple as that.

Simply put: Base jobs are the ones you initially start out with... advanced are the ones you need to do something to gain access to.

I gave up on the Paladin quest. I realize what's happening. The moment you engage one mob, all the mobs are aggro'd and will come after you (they are linked) BTW, I'm perplexed, 3 times I've attempted and each time the number of mobs I face were different. There must be some bug...

(I mean I am giving up for now ... will come back around level 36 or 37 to retry)

Just go to the city and request an alliance, mew! That could help whipple those mobs safely!

I remember in FFXI Selbina when people were hiding because the entrance was filled with mobs. SOmeone called for an alliance, and we charged out there bravely and eventually cleared the path! =^^=

Server merger and our community linkshell will be a boon for things like this

Stringing together more than two other players who (a) know what they're doing and (b) speak your language is a lot tougher than you can imagine. Most of the people in Uldah on my server are crafting bots. They are there every minute of every hour of every day, parked at the same spot, crafting and crafting non-stop. I also found out that there's a large contingent of people from the Philippines, Thailand and France that play on my server, which was kinda amusing. Many of the JP players have since quit (on my server)

I had a level 50 PGL help me on my mnk quest.

Level 35 mobs hit him quite hard surprisingly.

Heh, I guess they're going classic FFXI route with this--flag the quest for level 30, but give you quest mobs that you have no way in hell of defeating at said level! (Did this quest even flag to require more than 1 player?)
