  • Mor Dhona

So ... I'm at Camp Crimson Bark and noticed the monster levels have gone from high 20s and straight into level 45-47 for Spiny Dormouse. LOL? I read on a forum post that I should avoid Murmur Rills. That means I should go north of Camp Crimson Bark and hug the northern road past the lake and out west (hopefully) into Mor Dhona. Ugh ... I'll let you know what happens. :/

Edit: Fortunately, nothing but shriekers (51 to 53) and they are non-aggro. I shudder to think what was around Murmur Rills. I did get into a hairy cross-roads after Camp Crimson Bark where there were aggro hogs (50-??) but I rode quickly by hugging the walls. Yes, you can aggro stuff even as you're mounted, which presumably means you will also take damage should the monsters manage to hit you.

Oddly enough, first mobs I come across in Mor Dhona are Pterocs, level 30. :/

      Re: Mor Dhona

Mob placements in this game is weird. I was in northeast Thanalan grinding Dodo's that were in their high-teens; I turn the corner and what do I see--level 63+ Sabotenders. -.-

I shit you not.... level 85-89 (aggressive) Malboros, level 65+ (aggressive) Lizard things and level 98-99 (non aggressive) Goblins.

Also... once you're in Mor Dona, you might want to go ahead and get one of the checkpoints just so that you don't have to come all the way back to do it again. If you follow south once you enter the zone, you'll take a winding path to the SW that drops you right at one of them. The only catch is that the narrow-ass path is covered in Sight aggro Eyeballs. They're all around level 52-55 and stand still for long periods of time. If you're lucky like I was, you can catch them when they turn their backs. If you have to run through them, I would suggest throwing up Protect, SS and Rampart and making a break for it on Chocobo. You can typically sustain 2-3 hits like that and make it far enough to force them back to spawn. I did that with 2 or 3 of them before making it to the camp. Also... fair warning. The camp itself is surrounded by level 52-55 aggressive mobs. They keep their distance... just don't run blindly to the crystal just because you see it. Keep an eye out.

Have a feeling that Yyg can answer your question better than me. Only other zone outside of the main areas I've been to was Coerlthas (sp?) which wasn't difficult to get to at all and is not as bad (If you enter it from Black Shroud) to move around in (high 20s to 30s)

The first section in Mor Dhona was pterocs. Then there's a giant level 53 toad sitting near a pond. I made it a point to give it a wide berth. Seeing that toad there dissauded me from doing any more exploration since I was mostly concerned with the quest and leveling to 35.

            Re: Mor Dhona

Mor Dhona is intimidating at first. The zone itself is comprised of 2 very different types of areas. Think of it like Attowah Chasm in FFXI. There are wide open areas with small basins of water... like a marsh. The rest of the zone is all narrow walkways that cris-cross one another along the edges of cliffs. The landscape is like a wasteland with huge crystals jutting out from the mountains. For the most part, the average mob levels are between 50-55 and sprinkled with a few that are higher. It's primarily a beastman controlled zone and as such... you'll encounter the occasional camp of the beastmen that resemble Ifrit.

It's fun to navigate but will require that you either team up with someone or prepare to test you skills at avoiding things... even if you're level 50.

Thanks. I've only ever been in the three main zones. I gotta get to exploration some time. lol
