Hmm, I'm already 34 so it's probably 35? I'll just keep leveling from time to time and forget about quests or chocobos for now. It's just not worth the hassle.

Maybe it was 35 ... but I don't think so. My screenshots suggest I got it at 34. The only fugly thing is having to go to each city-state w/o a mount, which consumes your aether really fast. I promise to get back with you later tonight and post my findings. I also remember being in your situation (I think there was a post I had a few months ago about this) and I thought I had to do the dungeons but turned out I didn't. One of the other guys here, maybe it was Mezlo, clued me in on that fact (that you can solo the chobo license without problems ... just racking up the seals for the other stuff takes more time and effort)

Travel on foot? lol... just take the airship. They're available to you right away. No pesky license this time around. You simply pay ~2k and pick where you wana go and then stand on the platform. When the Airship arrives... you can actually choose to skip the CS 2 times in a row and you'll be on the landing platform of the city you picked. I don't bother with anything else these days. It's just too easy.

Okay, the quest that I thought was a group quest was not and for LL it was called "An Engineering Victory". This is where I was introduced to Cid Highwind. Now, I'm not sure what this quest is called for Uldah and Gridania companies (or if there is an equivalent) but I do know that for the Storm Brigade I got close to 3,000 total seals when I was done with all the quests that I could, save for the dungeons.

When I finished and was promoted to Private 3rd class to the flames I had a total of 1,250 seals for the other 2 companies and 3,550 for the Flames. I did every quest I was presented as it became available.

I used 3k of those seals to buy my license and the rest went to the training manuals for crafting and harvesting.

Once you pick a nation to pledge yourself to... you lose all the seals for the other 2 nations. I would suggest spending those seals on manuals and random gear before you pledge to your final choice... just to make use of them before they're gone.

I only got 500 seals from Engineering victory. And after completeting all possible quests I got 1350 seals from each Company before signing up with Gridania (yep spent all the seals from the other companies) which gave me another 1000 for a grand total of 2350.

Doing Imperial Devices will grant me 1000 more, but I can't even access the dungeon unless I'm with other people, so just doing lesser leves would be less stressing for the time being. I'm already at 2675 or something anyway.

Ahh.... my numbers must have been slightly off then. I got the same results as Ray.

1350 (Maelstrom) 1350 (Twin Adders) and 3350 (Flames) when all was said and done. You haven't missed a thing, Ray. If you hold off on Imperial Devices, I can help you when the merge is finalized.

In fact, I'm trying to bust out CONJ and WHM to 50 so that I can help everyone as much as possible when we all congregate on Ragnarok. There might not be a need for all the other jobs 100% of the time... but a healer... is always needed.

Plus: I like healing in XIV a lot better than XI. I just wish the commands actually went off instantly instead of having this .5 second lag to every button press. The lag is there no matter how low I drop my settings... so I assume it's the same kind of glitch as the one that makes you blink around when walking from time to time.

Grudge: Targeting. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to do this? It's hard enough to keep up with heals as it is with the .5 second delay... but scrolling through party members is torture. I tried all 3 of the targeting presets and none of them feel as fluid as XI did. It makes me pick between scrolling through enemies.... allies... or everything. I currently have it set to everything only because if I don't, I have to toggle the target settings if I want to go back to soloing leves... or else that becomes a pain in the ass too. Have any of you had the same kinds of issues?

Speaking of blinking, is it just me or does everything take a while to load in towns? For instance I get to the Inn in Gridania and it literally takes 10-20 seconds to start loading the NPCs. So I have to wait in an empty room while everyone decides to load. Mobs outside towns sometimes take a few seconds to load, but that doesn't happen often.

Or is it just me and I probably have some connection issues? <_<

I don't think you are missing anything, XIV's targeting system sucks majorly.

But it's part of the UI issues that are to be resolved for 2.0

All players are assigned a number based upon their listing in the party. the first person listed atop the party can be targeted by hitting "1" on the keyboard, the one under him, "2" and so on... you can self target by "8" sometimes, sometimes the "8" targets the closest mob which is odd, but... using this targeting system makes healing a breeze.

When I first started playing I tried to move all my commands to the keyboard XI style, but it had quite a few flaws.

I use a pad too and play on my laptop. I only use the keyboard for targeting when healing by hitting the corresponding numbers.

I think in Patch 1.21, you automatically face the monster if you are casting something on it (you'll spin around as your casting animation goes off) and I believe you can now cancel casting just by moving, since that was the big complaint in raids (moving out of the way of bad stuff)
