So I'm at the point after you choose your Companion (got a cute mithra CNJ since I will never EVER play the job.) and are told to wait for approval. After that I figured I'd get some quests done, so I traveled to both Gridania and Limsa andrecieved the LS message soon after to return to the White Sands (that's the name right? <_<; ) However when trying to access the area using the Wards zone by the Aetheryte the option to travel there doesn't appear, and it seems you need to be on a quest to even access the place. So I don't know if I skipped a step or I'm trying to access the area the wrong way, but my map shows that exact place as the entrance, and after running around for like an hour I was completely unable to find another way in.

Am I doomed?



PS > Are Companions like NPCs in XI or are they just for the storyline cutscenes? Because I don't remember seeing any people with NPCs out like XI so I'm guessing they are just for show.

You're not doing anything wrong. Once you get your companion, that part of the quest is over with. Once you level to the next bracket of quests, you'll get a message to return again. It's a bit confusing, I know.

(And companions are for the storyline only. Will probably change with 2.0 since that entire series of quests is being deleted.)

I was finally able to access today. No leveling required just weird zone lines. I had to exit the Markets menu and walk towards the zone line and it finally registered me actually being there. They probably need to fix the zone line for the quest so it triggers a few steps before the markets menu. orz

And I was still lvl 18.

After that I was finally able to name my npc, but it was pretty disappointing confirming they are only for Cutscenes.

Part of the storyline, they fight with you in certain areas, so they arent 100% only for cutsecenes if that makes you feel better...

After seeing how bad she was last night I'm not sure I want an NPC to help me in battle anymore. <_<;


We were fighting empire lackeys and she didn't even move a finger. At first I thought it was because we got a non aggression enchantment from an npc to sneak through the area, but even after that effect wore off and I attacked them she still wouldn't do a thing. Unless I was doing something wrong that is, and I have to do something besides attacking for her to support me. But I couldn't find anything but a button that said rally or something, which didn't do a thing when activated. orz

The companions today don't actually do anything, nor can you call them to battle like you can in 11, they are pretty much window dressing right now.

Whilst you don't have to level CON up to max there are some spells you should seriously consider getting from all the jobs out there, I will jot some of the down based on my experience as both healer and DPS in the current end game events.

CON: Protect (nice to have), Stoneskin (nice to have), Raise (must), Cure (nice to have) and Sacred Prism (must if you have Stoneskin or Sanguine Rite).
THA: Sanguine Rite (nice to have)
LNC: Invigorate (must)
PUG: Second Wind (must)
MRD: Blood for Blood (nice to have)
ARC: Cameleon (must) and Queelling Strike (nice to have)
GLD: Sentinel (must)

Some of the nice to haves become musts as healer of course but none of the musts become nice to haves if you are DPS, they really are musts for everybody, healers, dps and tanks.

Don't see why you wouldn't want to touch CNJ at all - it's a freaking easy job to level and is required for PLD if you want to play GLA.

What are your current DoM and DoW levels Dux and Malacite? I think the 3 of us are the furthest along in FFXIV. And what server are you guys going to and is it 100% for certain?

I got CNJ to 13 and only because I could play it as a combo-less THM, but couldn't stomach to level it any further considering Stoneskin is lvl 26. That's gonna have to wait quite some time.

And I barely got 26 with THM anyway so...


For now I just want to get 30 so I can do more main storyline quests and update my gear. Then I'll take all the other jobs to 20 and start leveling crafting and gathering jobs. but it's going to take a while. <_<;
