  • Skype problem with Final Fantasy XIV

Before anyone asks, yes I have tried running both as admin, just 1 or the other as admin and all combinations of it.

I have also tried opening skype second, as well as first.

The problem: Whenever I am making a call or just in a call and my mic queues (Astro A40 headset) the game starts having EXTREME slowdown. It isn't my internet either as I have a 55 mbs connection. If I am in vent and I queue my mic it has the same problem.

It isn't just game lag either, even if I am on the lil screen before the log in part comes up, it will go to "Not responding" and like 20 seconds later it will jump to the log in screen. I log in just fine, but as soon as the game launched it slows down again.

If I don't use any sort of voice communication, I don't have the problem, but I want to be able to talk to my friends.

I don't have this problem on ANY other game and I have played many other MMOs and have tested it on multiple games. I only have this problem on FFXIV.

If anyone can solve this problem for me, I would greatly appreciate it

    Thanks!

Maybe both programs competing for CPU power doesn't work that well or something crazy like that, but I have no idea. <_<

Hopefully someone here knows whats going on.

My computer shouldn't ever have problems with competing for power as I can run FFXIV on max settings and it only uses like 12%

I have a really powerful computer, but this problem is just so random and it doesn't happen on any other game, nor did it happen before patch 1.19, which I know was basically 2 patches ago now (Since 1.21 is right around the corner)

      So lame ; ;

Edit: I don't want to double post, so hopefully someone who can help can see this post with the edit. If anyone could help me with this, it would greatly help me. I lost all motivation to play all of patch 1.20 because of this problem and I want to return to the game before 1.21 and server merges and such, but I don't want to do so if I can't even chat with my buddies, which I do more than anything on my pc.

Sometimes, audio transmissions cause some serious electrical fluctuations. It has the potential to frag an incoming wireless signal... assuming that's what you're using. It really depends on the frequency your headset transmits at.

Also... are you using your mic via PTT?

In vent I use PTT, in skype I don't. When I am in vent and set my mic to read on talking and not PTT the problem still happens. For both programs it doesn't matter how I start talking, the problem still occurs.

I don't use a wireless headset either. It is hooked up into the Astro A40 Mixamp and connected via optical cables. (I am using the Astro A40 Headset) The headset is definitely not the problem in any possible way. It is such a weird problem *Sigh*

Makes me sad nobody knows a fix for this, including the official forums. Final Fantasy XIV is the only game I have ever had this problem with. I have heavily tested it too! Warcraft/Aion/FFXI/Rift/SWTOR/Diablo 2/Diablo 3 Beta/Starcraft 2 and many more do not have this problem.

It has to be a problem with the Final Fantasy XIV client somehow... I reinstalled multiple times, but nothing is helping. *sigh*

Re: Skype problem with Final Fantasy XIV

im having a similar problem, whenever i plug in my headset or webcam using an usb port i start getting these odd 2 sec lag moments every 7 seconds, non stop. when i unplug em its gone again. Whats also odd is that got a desk mic and this doesnt cause the problem eventho its also using an usb port. Maybe you could try doing that and simply playing incoming sound over your speakers. This doesnt help when your pulling an allnighter and your in a vent room with 10 others lol, but better then having to deal with that lag crap i guess.

So, since we're on the topic of VoIP, I can probably ask Yyg here if he's looking to get a Vent or Mumble (or was it Rumble) server for the LS. I can chip in for the cost ... I don't think a 25 seat option is prohibitively expensive for events and for those that wish to participate on it. It will make it extremely easy to coordinate during a fight since I hate typing into FFXIV chat (it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so clunky)

Re: Skype problem with Final Fantasy XIV

I don't have problems with Skype...but if you're running Windows 7 (or Vista?) this might be the culprit:

                  Go to:

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices > Go to Communications Tab:

Click on "Do Nothing". What happens with Windows 7 (and possibly Vista, I don't remember...long time) is that when you're on Skype (or Google Talk, Vent, Mumble, TS, etc. etc.), Windows notices that you're on a VoIP program and reduces sound of the program you're currently running--in this case, FFXIV. It's likely with FFXIV's shoddy programming and structure that Windows forcibly doing this causes some sort of tearing with your game. No promises, but this is the only possibility I can think of at the moment; if I think of anything else I'll post on this topic again.

Maybe FFXIV in fullscreen mode is the culprit here. Then again, there's lots of things you could try to do, like update your drivers.
