  • DoL Almanac

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread detailing what we've noticed when gathering on DoL, especially since SE moved a lot of things around in the last patch. The idea is to be as precise as possible with regards of how and where to find specific components for crafting (or just selling I guess?). Eventually if we get enough info I can amend the OP and sort by Class, Area and then Grade.

I'll get the ball rolling with my findings from earlier tonight outside Gridania. Up near Tranquil Moss is ideal for Grade 3 mining nodes you can pick up Alumen, Zinc and Silver. For Zinc, aim exactly one notch above the default position, and 2 notches for silver. Alumen I believe is 1 or 2 notches below. As well, you can sometimes dig up grade 3 dark matter as an extra in lieu of shards, and the rare digs are either a raw garnet or raw peridot. Any time you see a greatly diminished remainder bar, it's one of the 2 stones and you should always strike with as little force as possible (so hit enter and then again very quickly so the circle doesn't grow very big) and you should get the stone every time.

The one problem I did find was that the mining points can sometimes require you run 180+ yalms when exhausted in order to reset for new ones, and even when aiming for silver you can still frequently get Zinc instead. However it's one of the nicer locations for farming Zinc, especially since you can snag silver as I said to help get through early~mid GSM. There's only 1 mob that aggros in whole area around the aetheryte camp that I encountered and you should never even get close to it when running between points as it wanders about the southern end of an intersection that you will regularly cross.

Yeah I found that site earlier today. It doesn't detail the exact positioning of where to aim but it's good enough (plus with the hint system it doesn't take long if you forget where to aim for a particular item)

I have to say though, I truly hate whomever's idea it was to move copper ore stricty to thanalan (and likewise Zinc & Silver to The Black Shroud).

It's beyond stupid. First of all, mining around Black Brush for copper requires you to run a damned marathon between mining points, and secondly, it's not like Blacksmith and Armorer don't need copper ore either - it's kinda vital to making bronze...

As for the Silver and Zinc, well, that's just more of an annoyance than a major hinderence.

        1. Check disciplesoftheland.com's forums ... there's more things there than the main site.

        2. With a chocobo license, it doesn't matter, gathering is really easy.

        3. Sometimes it's better to just buy the ores than gather them. It really comes down to what your time is worth. For some players, their time is worth a lot in gils, either due to their activities or potentially what they could have been doing if they weren't gathering.

My highest is only 17 LNC (for combat classes) and I believe I need 20 or 21 minimum, something like that to join the Grand Companies.

Bleh ... I wish I could help you out there. You'll need at least 25 to receive all of the quests required for the license.

              Hi Malacite

DotL does actually contain the sweet spot but it is hidden away only in the Resource Finder. I don't quite understands why it isn't available in other sections but that seems to be the case.

It actually just says the number, it doesn't even indicate up or down wtf.

Positive numbers have no + prefix but negative numbers do have a - prefix which is why I provided both a positive and a negative example.

The default position is zero ... + means above, - means below. This is called depth in fishing and position in logging/mining. That's the first of the two part when harvesting. The second part is different for the three gathering professions.
