You guys are going way overboard. The summoning system looks like it'll be completely bad ass. You and your group defeat a super strong boss, and, together, you get one opportunity to unleash that boss on your enemies. Yea, that's bad ass.

oh ya, plus it strategically gives players a very rewarding and valuable summon that they might save for like another super hard boss/mission or NM even, mew! It has more epic value!

Admittedly, that does sound completely bad ass.

Well, this would be awesome in PvP, but I somehow doubt SE is gonna allow you to cheese progression content boss with this.

well it would be challenging to beat the boss everytime, plus a summon can only be stocked by a company once it seems, so people will think carefully when to use it.

                  Yeah...

                  Click for some pointless info

I'm just not sure what kind of content would benefit from this that would not be just as doable by just going at it the old fashioned way without the resource drain of competing for a summon.

Unless there was content that required this, which would actually make things even worse.

What could they possibly add to make it worth the effort besides a pretty light show and some 9999 DMG here and there? Like I said, I need to see it in action before even considering investing 1/4 of a mewâ„¢ in this.

Unless someone else uses it first.

I like that Yoshida appreciates the idea of keeping up the image of a God for summons - something XI really fell flat on and as a result SMN just fell flat as a class altogether. I don't want a repeat of XI, but at the same time I absolutely loathe the notion of one person only getting to use it for a single instance and then it's tough shit for everyone else until that primal has been defeated again.

He's already confirmed summoner as a class too, so how do you square that? How do you have a class who's main power is dependent upon beings that can only be used once a freaking blue moon?

I don't care if I'm ground in place unable to to move or perform any other actions and it wipes all my MP afterwards, I wanna feel like a boss when calling out a primal as a Summoner and have fun doing it rather than feeling like a jackass for using up everyone else's chance of calling it. FFX did a pretty good job of doing that, but XI~ XIII just didn't do it for me. (Although Fenrir & Odin were both kinda cool for a while when they first came out)

                        EDIT: 2 other interviews

                        Finalfantasy14.eu :

So far, we have been discovering the primals Ifrit and Batraal. Will it be possible in the future to summon them? Allowing primals to fight with us?

                        Naoki yoshida :

You will be able to summon them after 2.0 but with this ff14 we are considering these traditional primals such as ifrit and leviathan like a god. So I want to separate the traditional summoning system from these new primals. You will be able to summon 1 primal per 1 world, such as 1 ifrit for 1 world. So there will be ifrit, garuda, and so on but only 1 each. So with this new system Im planning to implement, the free companies who have defeated the primal have the ability to summon them. In the previous series, someone could summon Ifrit as well as other people could summon Ifrit. So there would be serval ifrits in one world but I don’t want it to be like that, so people will have to fight each other to have the ability to summon ifrit.

If summons are not considered primals, they will be more common and more people will be able to summon them. We will add the summoner class which can summon carbuncle but theyre different from primals. So primals can only be summons by free companies.

                        Finalfantasy14.eu :

In the future, will there be the appearance of less common primals? Such as doomtrain?

                        Naoki yoshida :

For the summoning class we would like to have smaller avatars, rather than large ones such as Ifrit. For doomtrain, if we see that it is suitable we will consider if it could be primal or avatar. We are still considering what we should add so please discuss this on your website or the official forum so we can see what avatars and primals players would like to see. If a certain primal makes players really happy we would like to add it. Personally I love ff7 knights of round but it is too hard to make.

                        Finalfantasy14.eu :

The next upgrade concerns the dragoon knight. Will he be accompanied of his own dragoon?

                        Naoki yoshida :

During this interview tour we have received that question often and to be honest we are considering adding a pet class in the future. So we were not thinking of adding a pet to the current class, but because we received this question so many times we will start thinking about it differently. Its very tricky because dragoon knight is supposed to be very strong because it has the dragons power but if you have the dragons power together then the dragoon and pet will be very hard to balance. Having a pet as well as having the power of the dragon is very tricky to balance.

So, we get to use the crappy summons regularly, and anyone can use the really awesome guys but just once per world until it's beaten again etc etc....

                        Still not a fan.

Note, that it appears to be connected to PvP, because of what I am emphasizing.

I was also right, when I invoked Carbuncle but anyway ... I'm assuming there'll be these primals like ... Ragnarok ... Alexander ...

I wonder about the summonable avatars though ... so Carbuncle (not confirmed, he merely used it as an example) ... Caith Sith? Kirin? Who knows ... one can just look back at all the espers, guardian forces, eidolons, summons, totema, scions, monsters, summonstones, aeons and avatars throughout FF history to get an idea of what could be considered "Primals" and what could be considered "Avatars".

It is not connected to PvP what-so-ever and I really shouldn't have to explain why, since it's in the interview. People will "fight" each other by being the company that has the ability to control the primal. That's all. No PvP required. The interview also states that PvP will be totally separate from PvE... Which would make your assumption wrong still.

And, yes, someone in your company defeats a primal, then anyone in your company can use it. Then, guess what? It's gone until the primal is beat again. Sounds like some terrible trolling could go on here.

So it would be possible to have players hold onto the primal forever, effectively preventing anyone else from ever acquiring it?

Did I read that correctly? Please tell me I missed something because otherwise someone's just going to cockblock the entire server just to point out the design flaw/be a dick.

I'm sure they are well aware of possibility that people might intentionally not use summon, so maybe having a summon stored lasts until like a week before they have to catch it again.

And there would be multiple summons, so it's also possible that each company/whatever can only possess 1 summon at a time, mew.
