Just lost complete interest in the game with the summoning information.

oh mew! please understand! They can just still adjust things, besides, originally, FFXIV wasn't going to have summoners!
This kind of thing can evolve and change and improve!

Any guess on how long after J9 can finally play FFXIV before the game is dead to them and the next big thing gets mewed over?

I'd imagine that would depend entirely on release dates.

Re: new interview! summons, crystal tower, etc!

I called it ... they really can't (because of how the game is) make "personal" primals. That doesn't mean that they won't in the future, but balancing a pet class is tricky and this game posits on the very core belief of having abilties that you (while not all) can access regardless of what class you currently are. It makes for a more interesting and diverse build, very similar to what you find in Rift.

            That said...

Yoshida Naoki: We are going to make sure to do everything to get the balance right and then we are going to make adjustments to that. For example, the marauder is going to be a really strong attacker, but we don’t want to spoil all the gladiator’s tank positional skills. We are going to make adjustments, of course, when we bring in the job system. You can be more specialized in a different area, for example, the warrior will be really more warrior-like than a marauder going in that direction. You will soon see all those class identities with 1.20 and 1.21, when we make those balance adjustments. Of course we need to improve some areas and some areas might be shifted to a different job, so some people might get disappointed. *laughs* So, you can look forward to it, but you can also be quite wary of it.
This will probably put Mal's mind at ease (at least it did for me) since they also agreed that GLA is a bit weak with their tanking abilities. I do notice that I take more damage and yet my DPS didn't increase to compensate for it.

It's official, summoning shouldn't be added at all.

I don't know why J9 doesn't just buy a damn PC and play it now. I've never seen someone so obsessed with a game that they don't even play.

This game is dead to me now. When they said 2013 for PS3, that killed it, along with probably just about every other screwed over console owner. S-E is one more bonehead move from being dead to me too. Shame... they were such a good company when it was just the S, and not the E.

And from what I've read out of sheer boredom, it certainly looks like they are well on their way to FFXI HD. Am I way off base on that, or is that what others have understood too?

I'm not sure what 2.0 is going to hold ... I do know that it's nothing like FFXI right now. It would be shameful to have them go back to FFXI. I don't think they will, though...

Yeah, it looks like they are trying to go in a different direction while keeping some XI aspects to at least make the current version playable in the mean time.

But I'm still wondering if they will have the budget and time to do what they are planning to do. Considering how much money has been already spent and how risky it is for SE to keep dumping money on a project that, even if completed as planned still has no guarantee whatsoever it will actually survive in the current MMOG market.

                    TL;DR They are going to need a freaking miracle -comparable to stopping Meteor- to pull this off. <_<;

I was actually expecting CON to be a back up requirement, what with the healing magic & all. But I'm happy to hear that they will be having a mix of skills required for jobs - makes it feel more like FFT.

Really, really disappointed in the summoning bit. I agree with him on the notion of Primals being unique, but there's got to be a better way to balance it so we can actually play as a summoner class proper.

I mean honestly, ONE person, at total random, can use the summon and then it's TS for everyone else until he's beaten again? WTF? That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

I want my pet summon god damn it, and I want it to be UBER - with appropriate restrictions.

Well, didn't Wada say (although, ahem, need to take his words with a large chunk of rock salt) that "at all cost" they needed to put FFXIV back on track and to "recoup" their image?

Although, especially on Gamasutra, many of the game developers there had pretty much wished SE all the best but feel that SE's got a gigantic mountain to climb in their ragged flip-flops.

                            Whoa u guyse.

Summoner is still a thing. Did anyone play FF games where Ifrit was not amongst the summon entities?

I would welcome lesser entities for summoners. I love the free company summon thing, it adds an element to the game that i havent seen in MMOs.

I must admit I would like to be able to summon my own "mini-primal" but if it isn't there then the world wide anmation effect better be pretty damn awesome.

Apart from that I'm pretty happy with everything else that was mentioned in the interview, 2.0 is looking to be a very nice "expansion pack".
