    Re: FFXIV 2.0

I went back and searched for Letter from the Producer (I had to go to ZAM since Official Forums only holds it for 6 months)

    Dear Kenneth,

I received your air mail, all the way from California. Your letter made me extremely happy and I would like to thank you for encouraging the development team in our efforts.

You expressed concern over whether one of the four keywords I introduced at the beginning of the year, namely reboot, meant that we would be wiping character data. I apologize for any confusion that this choice of terminology may have caused, but rest assured that character data will not be wiped.

This decision was in no way influenced by your letter, but is something that I have been adamant about from the onset. As a personal policy, I would simply never allow it.

Our characters are us, complex collections of memories and emotions, and nobody has the right to take them away from us.

I will be more careful in the future when choosing my words, and regret any anxiety I may have caused among players fearing for their characters' safety.

Please tell everyone on the Kashuan World that Yoshi-P says hello!

I'm already looking forward to writing my next letter! Until then!

Naoki Yoshida, FINAL FANTASY XIV Producer/Director
I guess I can continue to play as normal and pay SE the subscription for that privilege.

I appologize, those pics are spoiler free, just pictures in Limsa Lominsa and outside the city on a chocobo, but I will spoiler them in the future or just post in that section of the forum.

He means to use the spoiler tags. When you go to Advanced Editor in making a new forum post here, on the second bar to the right, between the quote button and the strike through button, there's a spoiler button. Encapsulate lots of large images with this so that people don't have to view it until they "open" it.

Then they shouldn't of released a game that was still alpha quality after 5+ years of production (Remember, the screenshot of "Rapture" was released in 2005.) Even if they were forced to release the game a year ago, it should of been more polished. Look at other MMOs that have had that long of a development period... At least those games had some sort of end-game going on (and mounts *cough.*)

            Just my opinion.

              Re: FFXIV 2.0

I've read through the PDF files a million times and I'm ashamed to admit that mounts is what I'm hyped about the most. lol

The shared aspect of it to be precise, if we can get 2 people on a chocobo, maybe we'll get 3+ on a wagon or 4-6 in a magic powered car or something nifty, maybe an airship too (ok maybe no an airship).

Followed by the new battle system, I really hate the current battle system so much lol.

                    Re: FFXIV 2.0

The XI-ized combat system is starting to look good obviously, but the controls are crap no matter how much I try to customize them.

Still, for originality's sake I'd have preferred if they had kept the older combat system and improved upon it in a DCUO/Versus direction (much more twitch oriented.) That would've worked wonders for what the original combat system was originally trying to accomplish, me thinks.

Can't we go back in time and MPK Tanaka to avoid all of this? Where's Chrono when we need him?

Starting the battle require you to be already in battle mode or in range with an ability that attacks your foe, just hitting enter twice (via a pop up menu) would make it a million times easier.

Targeting: the way the tab moves the arrow is weird and sometimes just jumps around too much before landing on the mob I want, and even once you target the mob and you're in battle mode you need to hit enter again to actually start hitting the mob.

The action bar is just not my thing, I'd love to have abilities, weaponskills and spells in different categories instead of mashing them togther, even with 3 rows I need more than 1 for abilities and that butts in with how I want my abilities to be lined up.
So I have to set up abilites then set up macros to use them, making the action bar useless for me.

I'd love a menu system, as a toggle between it and action bar mode.

                          Re: FFXIV 2.0

                          Valid concerns.

I avoid tab, I use a controller or the arrow keys to navigate between targets. The system seems flawed somehow, FFXI was much better, my guess is they did something less than ideal when implementing the whole system... and fixing it at this point is too demanding. An overhaul seems fitting, and that's what looks like it will come to down the line.

I don't seem to have the same problems at the start of a fight, all I do is press an ability and select its target (or the other way around) and that seems to initiate a battle just fine.

The way the action bar is handled is another problem with the UI, it just lags so much and feels very clunky and slow.

These however are concerns more directed towards the controls and UI than the battle system. The simplified FFXI-ified battle system that's been implemented is so much better than it was before.

I would'nt worry as from what I can tell all those issues are part of the rehaul, let's just hope they do it right this time.

Honestly, wouldn't mind if the implemented a "closest enemy" key binding. would help out when your killing multilple mobs and you defeat one.

Or at the very least include auto-targeting... it's retarded that I have to manually switch to a new target when engaging multiple enemies. Not only that, even if your weapon is still out and you're face-to-face with the damn mob, you won't actually start auto-attacking until you manually input a command.

WELL WTF WAS THE POINT OF AUTO-ATTACK THEN SE!?
