"Character data and progress for players already playing the PC version will also be preserved, allowing those players to continue using their in-game avatars"

Unless they go back on this ... I'm to understand that the world around your character is getting the reboot and not your actual avatar. Like your character is standing their and the whole world around them crumbles and melts like they took a tab of acid only to wake up from the nightmare after everything reverts back to what the world should have been...

Course take this with a grain of salt... who knows what SE will actually do when it comes time for the actual world ending event to take place. I would go with the "If I have things I enjoy more than playing the current version of FFxiv then I will do that instead of playing FFxiv" tack regarding your concern with wasting your time.

I'm just glad I am forced to await the PS3 release... too many good games out there right now for me to bother with trying another MMO.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out, I must've missed it when I skimmed the pdfs over my coffee break earlier. But then we get to another (albeit, smaller) issue regarding semantics and translation. Character Data, Progress and Preservation can mean different things depending on the context it was intended for. I'll wait for clarification (specific and technical) before getting too deeply involved atm.

Like you, I have other things to keep me busy, namely Diablo III (currently in beta), my PS3 (when it gets here) and a possible SW MMO ... but I still don't want to play yet another MMO at this time.

        Wait.... wait a freaking second.

They are "updating" the graphics engine, and making it fully customizable to cater to "a broader range of PC environments and the PS3". "Which will cause certain objects to display differently" than they do now. Which is why they "will allow us to re-costumize our avatars".

        So I have to ask.

As a PC gamer, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Maybe it was a typo ... but if we can outfit our avatars, then I'm gonna make mine look like Rikku.

No. You're reading into it too much. There's no way the PS3 would be able to handle such customization in dense areas like towns.

Thought of this song this morning and then thought of 2.0. I want you to make believe it's the first time~

Also, the significance of this hit me
                          • Genre-leading graphics on high-end PCs
                          • Smooth gameplay on the PlayStation 3 system and similarly-powered PCs
Which is to say, they're not allowing the weakest platform to set the upper bound of the graphical quality. Nice move. More to the point, way to learn from past mistakes.

They are in those pdfs that was linked in the OP. You can see for yourself (it's pdf, just need Adobe reader, not sure why you think that is scary)

Haha... J9 if you are starved for screenshots I can just post screen grabs from the game right now, I am logged in reading through the SE announcement.
