Letter from the Producer, XVIII (09/21/2011)

    Hello everyone, Yoshi-P here.

First of all, I have to apologize for the briefness of this letter. Things are pretty hectic here, what with work on patch 1.19 well into its final stages, and I ask for your understanding. (I promise to write a nice, beefy letter next time!)

But let’s talk about 1.19. The team has been working like a whirlwind to get things done on time, focusing mainly on bug fixes and balance tweaks. I’ve been getting my hands dirty as well, test-playing all aspects of the patch.

I realize that many of you were expecting the patch to arrive this week, but right now the team is looking at a September 30 release. Certain contents are a bit iffy to make to the deadline, and because of this, there’s a chance that the date will get pushed back a few days. We want to deliver as much content as possible to you, but at the same time want to make sure that everything gets enough QA and balancing time. I’m really sorry we’re cutting it close, and ask for your patience for a while longer.

Now, I know this won’t make up for much, but I’m planning to release the patch notes early this time. Just for good measure, here’s a little preview of what’s coming in 1.19:
    • An additional hundred item slots per character
    • An additional fifty item slots per retainer

Details are on the way, so stay tuned!

Ah, I should also mention that FINAL FANTASY XIV will celebrate its first anniversary on September 30. To mark this momentous occasion, I’m planning a Letter from the Producer that’s “livelier” than usual. Will have more to tell soon!

Alright, I better get back to work. Talk to you again soon!

We likes the inventory space precious, yes yes!

As for the "delay" a few days is nothing in delayed software terms. Yoshi P's deadlines have always been aggressive I'm aamzed he isn't later than he is. All things considered I think Yoshi P has done a pretty good job given the huge mountain he has infront of him.

Sadly already the official forum thread has already spiraled into a pathetic epeen competition between pre-pubesent school boys. If you going there hoping to find something useful you have been warned

Yes because permanent goods are ever so great for the durables markets...

No it's not. It's a lot better than it was before (although I took a hit having to vendor entirely useless mats by the boat load) It's simplified to the point that you require just a handful of mats (and only one of them is needed per item) and you don't need to lug it around either (unless you're anal about that sort of stuff)

bind the gear to your player, nobody else wants to wear some other sweety lancers pants. and bam, the economic side is taken care off.

The penalty for being defeated doesn't have to revolve around the gear being reduced to rags.
I personally don't like having a chore like equipment repair forced on me when i'm defeated in a game where i am going to more than likely be defeated occasionally.
Hell, i wouldn't mind it either if the NPC would repair your crap to 100%, but as it stands, you have to remove your gear, place it in your bazzar, offer some amount of money for it, stand around or shout hoping that one of the other 16 people who still play is logged in, and they have the means to repair your gear.
Or level your skill to a point where you can repair it yourself, again, forcing you down a road that some people may or not enjoy. (i personally do not)

Seriously, because you have fun adventuring with your friends in an online game, doesn't mean that same online game has to have RL responsiblites associated with it.
I go to england for 2 weeks, i have chores I have to do when i get home.
I go to a dungeon with my friends for 2 hours, I have ... chores... i have to do...when i get back to town... ? I was trying to not play real life ...

That is a single player game, there for decay there or not would not matter.

Unless it was a resource management game.

I believe I spoke too soon, as I realized that the NPC can now repair anything i'm wearing (except jewelery) to 99% for minimal gil. I was unware when i posted this. And while I don't think the system is perfect, it isn't as bad as I made it out to be.

Something I thought would be cool for them to implement would be a repair surcharge for the AH when it get's implemented eventually. Like say something like this:
3% auction house tax, across the board.
-I would like to sell awesome armor +235 for 1 mil gil, which would equate to a tax of 3,000 gil for me to post my armor
-now say my armor was at 90-99% degradation, increase that tax to 7%
                              -60% degradation? - 12% tax.
The seller, could save some extra money possibly by having their friend repair it to 100% but if they just want to get rid of it, and don't mind the 12k listing price, they could put it up in i'll repair
-The AH NPC could say something like, "oh this *item name* has some *level of* damage to it, to sell it our crafters will have to repair it, for an additional fee. Is that o.k.?"

Just a thought. and not really related to the thread.
