[dev1072] Abolition of Physical Levels / Attribute Point Revisions

The only problem I see is balancing issues between 1.19 and 1.20 ... hopefully this doesn't affect crafting too much.

Attribute and element points will be abolished, and character development will be automated based on class level. A system whereby players can voluntarily allocate attribute points to each class will be implemented in patch 1.20 or later, along with class balance adjustments.

I'm sorry, but all this "We'll implement half of what you need now to play properly, then do the rest whenever the hell we feel like it" crap is getting old.

They probably shouldn't let us allocate our own points, seeing as how they've placed a lot of soft restrictions on how much you can use any given stat at your level.

I don't see this as a big deal.

it is better to do it this way in the long run, and the gap between 1.19 and 1.20 will only be like a month or so

Glad to see they're throwing elemental attribute points out the window.

Good riddance, that shit just made things needlessly complicated.

So~ what does this mean again? No more Ragnarok Online-style of putting points into stats?

no we will have both, stats will be distributed automatically when you level, but you will also get bonus points to tweak yourself the way you want (bonus points don't come till 1.20)

What I don't get is stats on gear will get better at higher levels, but primary attributes will weaken?

WTF? Can we not just have a simplified, streamlined process for stats like it used to be in the offline games?

What? I've played varying degrees of FF1-12 and none of them have ever provided me with reasonable explanations for what the stats do. Hell, Magic Defense gear in FF7 was bugged and didn't work, and half the time the stat names were retarded (e.g. Attack% instead of something related to accuracy or hit chance.)

                      Re: Bye Bye Physical Rank

Well, it always seemed much simpler.

You equip gear with higher stats/level up and go on your merry little way. Maybe it's because most of those stats are hidden/calculated behind the scenes or what have you, but it just feels like it's much more complex in XI and XIV.

Like with XI, you gotta factor in fSTR, DMG, Weapon Rank, fTP blah blah blah....

Compared to IV: The After Years where I just slap on a weapon with a higher attack rating and that's the end of it. (Though I've noticed now that the weapons actually have different attack & accuracy values when I go into the status menu).

That's all I was driving at. Well, that and defense actually doing something.

That's because nobody gives a fuck if you play inefficiently in an offline game. Most games break if you try to exploit them to the fullest anyhow (much like FFXI...)
Compared to IV: The After Years where I just slap on a weapon with a higher attack rating and that's the end of it.
That's not very compelling decision-making. Contrast that with Kingdom Hearts where I have a hard time picking one Keyblade to use because I have so many with different and appealing properties (and you don't need to learn any math!)

                          Re: Bye Bye Physical Rank

Well, the gear is pretty straight forward. Of course, Primary attributes aren't likely as strong as the secondary (i.e., Attack vs STR) but that's because Primary tend to affect more things so they have to dilute the power or face great imbalances in the game. That said, you can put lots of primary attributes through embedding Materia in gear, just that after the first embed, it gets difficult on a curve...

Anyway, I didn't see anything related to 1.20 and neither did I see how they're addressing the issue in 1.19a right NOW. The new gear (and let's face it, there's rank disparity in some of these so I'm assuming they only implemented half of all the recipes they were suppose to 1.19 ... which explains why the community seems a bit disappointed) has stats that really does not make too much sense unless you buy "colored" gear. Plain Jane items look lackluster and doesn't do anything in comparison to "dated" gear. You guys don't see too many colored gears and probably has to do with how ridiculously expensive dye is (the all purpose ones) However, I crafted my own stuff and noticed the tremendous benefits of having colored gear. For example, my Yellow Steel Chainmain is much more desirable to the plain Steel Chainmail. I suspect that, while HQ is still found in the game, they must've nerfed the rate of acquiring HQ items to hell and back so they needed to throw a bone to the common man in the form of vanity.
