Newbie to this game and the thing I've noticed is that only the weathered gear items seem to be sold in stores. I then visited the market wards and found little selection so I was wondering if there was a website or place where crafters can be contacted by people who would like certain gear crafted. If not how do you get your gear? I'm actually considering crafting my own so there was more variety.

Armour is usually made yourself or purchased from other players via the Market Wards. If you are lucky you will get the item you want as a reward from leve's but I wouldn't hold out much hope for this.
Uldah is the best place to find the armour you seek if you did not start in the city of Uldah then you should probably head there. -

I crafted alot of what I use while ranking up Armorer and the rest I got from the wards, and as Dux said, go to Uldah.
If you're on Besaid /t me and I'll craft you what you need.

Either craft them yourself, purchase from certain NPC vendors (in the wards and only pre R20 armor IIRC) or purchase from other players from the retainers in the wards. Expect more activity in the wards after 1.19 once syntheses gets streamlined and hopefully you get to benefit from price reductions from that. Right now, selections are quite slim, because no one has any incentive to spend hours crafting for low rank items (unless they are low ranked themselves)
