Anyone know how to gain ranks quickly through the Grand Companies? Or did it take a while for you, too? I can't do some of these quests because they require at least two players to enter some dungeons ... and sadly, I can't find anyone to do these with me.

Well, there's a recruit rank. Do you mean to say that the next one is the highest you can get and all that's needed for a chocobo license?

Yeah, I forget what it's called but it's the first official rank after being accepted. You need that + 3000 seals.

Bleh ... that's like 13,000 seals total. You get 500 at most for a lengthy quest. >.>
