I started playin XIV last week.

I. Want. Auto-Attack. NOW.

Right now it's just frustrating ... all it does is hinder me and slow me down.

Mashing the 1 key does not constitute a challenge, and thats what i find myself doing, this "strategy" people are talking about... if waiting for stamina even made a big difference i would welcome a stamina bar but right now its nothing but a feature that isnt as good in practice as it is on paper.

oh ya! The only problem with auto-attack in mmorpgs, in some have too long delay, but I think now they can be more reasonable with auto-attack rate of attacks with FFXIV advanced technology and hardware!

I wonder when Scythes and Great Swords are added, if they will take as long as FFXI to swing, mew?

I doubt they would go back to using long delays. I can't say I would mind, if they did, because it didn't bother me too much in FFXI. I think the material-centric crafting system could be used to give players a degree in freedom in balancing the weight of the weapon and its deadliness.
