Re: Letter from the Producer, X (05/20/2011)

Here's the thing about the other failed MMO launches - they were all PC onry.

Even FFXI had it's own PS2 spot when it came out here, and I remember all my classmates in my senior year of highschool asking me about it because they had seen it and some of them knew I played.

That's SE's one and only chance at reviving FF14 - A massive PR campaign for the PS3 launch. It can work, but the game absolutely has to be up to par by then and it's gonna cost them a lot of money to get the kind of flashy adds they'll need.

ya it makes sense, that's why no word of PS3 version will come until the PC version is updated more and has lots more content and reasons to play.

PS3 will start off with whatever content and fixes the PC has been getting and will be getting, mew, so it works to be patient and focus on improving PC version to modern standards so the PS3 launch will be explosive good and critics would sound more like fools comparing the PS3 launch with the PC launch.

Ya and I'm sure they will plan a massive PR campaign so they can totally redeem FFXIV Online for many! It will be the first massive mmorpg for PS3, and many people have been getting used to fees due to stuff like DCUO, so FFXIV Online will be the next big thing for them and other PS3 owners, mew!

OMFG I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner.

SE should probably make their own commercial for the PS3 launch, but, they should also get KB to do one! I can think of no one better to try and promote the game who would be sure to spark a tonne of interest. SE would be crazy to pass up a KB commercial!

I feel it's a bit much to say an MMO is done for simply because of a bad launch. Hell, it's a stretch to call it in even because of a bad launch year.

MMOs are ongoing. So long as the servers are still running, players are still playing, devs are actually interested in improving content, there there's a chance to turn it around.

One thing I think S-E never bothers to utilize is advertising. The hype of XIV's release notwithstanding, there are still many more people that haven't heard of the game than have. It has a bad rep among the people that know it, but thousands more don't even know to form an opinion of it. S-E can take this: turn the game around, make it what it should be, and advertise it to the high heavens.

For my part, I've no interest in playing, nor will I any time soon. But I plan on keeping my ear to the ground and might be willing to give it a try if I hear it's actually worth my money/time in the future.

That would be some funny crap right there, if he did a FFXIV commercial ;p

I still consider his E3 speech one of the greatest performances ever

At least with relation to the industry anyway.
