The beta was just that bad.
In what universe is this even remotely true?

In MMO gaming, if you make a bad first impression at launch, you get no second chances or comebacks. This game, regardless of what you chose to believe, is dead and buried. No MMO to date has tanked at launch and then turned it around anywhere down the line. You can look at EQ2, Vanguard, AoC, LoTR, Warhammer, DDO, and Tabula Rasa as examples of this.

So, yeah, that'd be this universe.

I wouldn't touch FFXIV with a ten foot pole based on how fucking awful it was in beta and I'll say as much to anyone who brings the game up in conversation. Other people will do the same. What do you think that does for the game's chances of survival Mal?

Then that just shows your and others ignorance, by Sept-Oct the game will be very different from the way it was back in beta, and even launch. If you still base a game off it's beta from almost a year ago, then I am sorry but you fail.

I left the game back in Oct after beta was over and game went retail, because I too was like "the hell is this crap" now fast forward to Apr and I try it again after checking into it again, and I am glad I came back, the game is alot better. I am taking it slow and casual at the moment, just crafting and doing little things, because major parts of the game are still changing.

Yes the game still needs work, hell it was released a year before it should have been, there is a new director over the game that seems to be thinking more level headed then the previous one and as far as I am concerned FFXIV is still in beta.
By the time the PS3 version is released, it will be an almost completely different game in most aspects.

You named a bunch of bad games as if they had no subscribers for any reason other than they were bad games. If I recall, both LoTR and DDO increased their player-base by providing free-to-play subscription models, and are both bringing in more money than they were before the change.

FFXIV isn't dead, and it's definitely not buried. Look at FFXI and the people still clinging to that game. If push comes to shove, SE can bump off FFXI and retain a portion of the players that trade up to FFXIV. It wouldn't be ideal, but they clearly envisioned a more vibrant and player-run economy, so it that influx of players might be just what they need to give the game a kick-start.

Not really. I just saw incredibly bad game design and decided not to reward it with my money. If it can actually be fixed they'd be better off scrapping FFXIV altogether and releasing whatever they come up with under a new name.

This is absolutely absurd logic, not to mention bad business practice.

What's absurd is this tantrum you're throwing.

I love how we can have a simple difference of opinion like this without immediately resorting to calling eachother stupid, brain-dead, ignorant, tantrum-throwing, etc.

                      Wikipedia:

A tantrum or temper tantrum is an emotional outburst, usually associated with children or those in emotional distress, that is typically characterized by stubbornness, crying, screaming, defiance, angry ranting, a resistance to attempts at pacification and, at some cases, hitting.

                      • Stubbornness: Check!
                      • Crying: Probably.

                      • Angry Ranting: DOUBLE CHECK.

I'm not flaming, and I treat others as they treat me. If you want to be childish, I'll can be childish. If you want to be mature, I can be mature. If you want to be Aks, I can be obnoxious and pity myself. If you want to be Murphie, I can be spiteful and dramatic. If you want to be Mhurron, I can be holier than thou and disrespectful. Really, the list goes on.

I'll say it again more clearly. Stop with the personal insults. This means everyone. Someone flaming you is not an excuse for flaming them.
