interesting, but it does not really say much, on another note there is a thread that is talking about a dev, that said something about adding a form of materia to the game.

    This was the example given......................

DOL's go and farm Aetheryte Rich Crystals from fishing, botanist and Mining.

Each Crystal has a color cooresponding to a stat. Red Strength, Purple Dexterity, Yellow Vitality etc.

Disciples of hand take the crystals and cut them into Materia.

A Player with armor or weapons with a Materia Slot goes to a Crafter and buys the Materia and the crafter places the materia into his armor/weapon in a system similar to the Repair System. Attaching Materia also fully repairs the item. But the item becomes untradable/unsellable in the wards.

Materia Equipped gives a stat or a trait.

Red can give Strength, Attack Power, or new traits only available in Materia like Double Attack (A single ability acts as if it hits twice for a chance) etc.

Mixing the same color twice on an item makes the effect of both more powerful (red 1+ Str) + (Red 5+ Attack Power) = (2+Str and +7 Attack Power) Mixing opposing colors spreads out the effect adding a variable stat based on the mix. (Red 1+ Str) + (Yellow 5+ Defense Power) = (1+ Str , 5+ Defense, +Parry Chance)

Well it's nice they are establishing a story/lore introduction to Grand Companies, some of the well known companies and its leaders (along with fantastic artwork.) The gameplay details will surely be brought to light.

She certainly has a Roegadyn name, but she resembles a Duskwight Elezen.

Is it just me, or is anybody else not really getting much out of this "new" storyline?

The storyline is mostly the same between the three nations. Garlean agents are attempting to abduct engineers and generally be sneaky, and people are hearing rumors or attempting to reform the GRAND COMPANIES. It feels a lot like the badge quests before ToAU was released, but it's better than nothing. Hopefully they're not using throw-away NPCs in these quests, and we'll see them again in the future.

The portmanteau to describe this crossbreed would be pronounced McAwful. Just wanted to throw that out there.

It'll be FF14's version of jewelcrafting. Mr. Yoshida also had hinted on in add-on "hook" so that the community can customize the UI experience further. They're already resigned to making two versions of the FF14 client... one for PS3 (and other future console platforms) and one for PC (and maybe Mac ... who knows, it's possible if they shift away from "build on PS3 and then port to PC") They're having someone look at the feasibility of a brand new game engine in the PC version and maybe even use that to license it to other gaming companies so they could make money that way. There's just so much possibility here and potential for great changes to the game in the next few months. I'm glad the "young bloods" are getting more lee way with design and development decisions at that company. The old guards can stuff it for all I care.

Why would they switch out the game's engine? It's way too late for that in the game's development.

They've already acknowledged two things: (1) This is still beta ... whether we players like that fact or not (2) They have appointed someone to look at a new engine that they can replace the old with and I don't think it has to do with graphics but probably the part that controls networking and UI. Mr. Yoshida already stated that they have made some progress with the speed regarding latency and lag in the UI interface but he also said they could "do a lot better" and that "it may require a change to the mechanics and underlying structures". They're also considering allowing players with "slightly less" than optimal systems to run this game.

So there's two ways to approach this:

                              1. Massive patch ... or
                              2. Opt-in to receive a DVD upgrade by mail

This wouldn't be unprecedented as this has been done a few times before around the world but this would be an exceptionally rare case. Then again, other MMO games have folded operations when they were in SE's shoes, so nothing is being ruled out at this point in time.
