It's not bad since retainers take care 90% of what you would use an in-game mail (other than a revolving storage space...lulz) I can understand why they left it out, however. This is the one thing that is killing RMT. They usually use in-game mail (to either solicit sales or to complete a transaction) and removing this pretty much cripples their capability. No longer can they claim (fast service 24/7)

As for them wiping the game and completely starting over that can be a 2 edged sword. There's a lot of players already progressed to the point that they are doing pre-end game stuff. This includes crafting of top of the line items (they exist in the game, albeit not a lot of it) and saving up faction points to take on the harder factional leve challenges for better stuff. A lot of players seem to think SE isn't gonna do them wrong and are grinding in serious fashion. I'm 99% sure there won't be a reset w/o SE risking losing every customer that currently is playing the game trying to lure new customers.

Yeah, there's no way they'd reset it, Yoshi has said that verbatim. So that's that. Funny thing, the only people thinking it will get reset are those that haven't started playing, hmmm...

Not true, I have played, I said that there might be a reset, because I thought it to be the smartest thing to do, when you change something so much, and no one has payed any monthly fees, there really is no reason to no wipe the slate clean.

I honestly could care less if people kept their characters or not, I don't let things like "falling behind" bother me.

I don't think that it will, I'm just speculating how they could do it. There's a difference.

It's not about monthly fees since we had to pay for the account code ($40 standard, $70 CE or maybe it was 50/80) that came with the packaged product. I don't think online sales was available (i.e., game download + emailed account code) It doesn't matter if a monthly fee was charged. And SE don't want to admit this is beta still and by their own admission they won't wipe or reset character datas.

Fundamentally changing the game does not require a character wipe. That's just a false notion. Look at WoW. Compare the classes right now in Cataclysm to the classes when it was first released in 2004. I can assure you that they are far and away drastically different. Did that require account/character wipes? Nah.

              Erm.

You can't compare vanilla druid vs. cata druid against the changes the new XIV team wants to make to the game. Because, honestly, classes were just fixed up to how they were supposed to function in WoW. Altering entire classes, renaming them, and redoing battle mechanics for XIV, though... Yeah. That's a tad different.

You conveniently forget hunters. Energy =/= Mana. Not to mention all of the pet changes.

                Reasons for a character wipe:

-Removal of races or addition of new races (This game isn't WoW and unless there's a free service available for a race change then they'll need to wipe characters)
-Removal of classes (Don't get confused with changing the name of classes)
                -Removal of currencies, including gil.

Any other changes can be dealt with through conversions (i.e., bending exp curves) and refunding (of currencies in the event of changes, not deletion) Class mechanics do not warrant a character wipe and neither does overhauling the UI or any of the in-game functions. There's very little reasons for a need for character wipes outside of an official Alpha or Beta. Once the game has made it past RC (Release Candidate) and have been put on the store shelves there's no going back for ANY software company.

Removal of races, yes a wipe, but adding a new race? no a wipe is not needed.

The mana != focus thing doesn't count. At all. Yeah. They updated a class, but it still plays essentially the same. Except now, you have to build your focus so you can't spam attacks.

-They said they may add male Roeg-whatever in the future in previous interviews. So does that mean they are going to wipe?
-No one said anything about removing classes.
-There's only one currency in the game.

It's a facking mechanic. Are you going to argue semantics with me?

I still think XIV would benefit greatly from a DCUO-like fighting gameplay.

And they wouldn't need to change much about stats, just add some mobility and adjust combat speed.

                        ...what? <_<;

I already know it ain't gonna happen, but one can still ponder about it.

I did read, I read it very clearly. and I still stay with what I said before

First off we can assume (because its SE) there will be no free character race change. that said I still say removing races? Yes wipe (at this early stage anyway) adding races? no need for a wipe.
