There's a lot of different staple attacks as you rank up. Some of them can hit multiple mobs and some can strike multiple times. These control TP gains. For PGL, these are important, with one or two increasing their evasion/parry with usage. Auto attack will ruin this complexity and turn this into nothing more than WoW 0.5 ... something I rather not want to see.

yeah if they add auto attack back in, it will effect the game in more ways then one, and they will have to change alot of skills/abilities to make auto attack work right.

Its not just a matter of "turning it on" like some seem to think.

At first I was excited about FFXIV, then after my first month I decided to wait, now I am feeling like I might as well go back to FFXI, at least for now.

One more thing people seem to not want to take in to consideration........ this is still technically beta, and no one has paid one monthly fee...... SE could come out and say that there will be a server wipe if they have to change the game to much. Main reason why I am waiting for the PS3 release, because by then then game should be stable.

Didn't they already address whether or not they would wipe the servers? I remember they stated that they understand the connection players have to their characters and wouldn't take that away from them.

Yes, Yoshi P said that they won't even consider it so rest easy.

People listening to SE now? when did that happen ;p

If a change is big enough, I would almost be agitated if a reset was not done.

You would be agitated because you're suddenly behind. I wouldn't mind a reset, and I'll probably end up restarting, anyways. I made a lot of progress on my first character, but I don't even know where to continue, because I have no idea where I left off.

Couldn't they like, save people's progress somehow and reinstate their characters and their levels? I mean if they scrap nearly everything in the game but they're still keeping the general premise the same - job names, crafts, etc. and keep the rough numbers needed to level the same, why couldn't they just build from the ground up and then create these people's toons from where they left off? Basically hand them their levels.

Or if they can't do that - or if they're worried some might want to start over anyway, they could use the in-game mail system (please tell me there is one) to send people "level" vouchers, make them class-specific so they can't take their melange of job levels they once had and essentially PL their one class to the cap, and let these people use these "level vouchers" to get back to where they were.

It would probably be difficult to implement, but much more difficult than trying to scrap and rework an entire game without deleting the progress people have made. If they do save this data somewhere and just do a clean wipe and start from the ground up, they'd have a lot more freedom to rebuild the game. As it stands now, they're incredibly limited.

Then again, I know very little about development. I think they'd be able to scrap everything but give people back what they'd previously achieved.

It should be simple to use voucher coupons for level reimbursement, but it would be difficult to outright force people to put it back into all the same jobs, so they could easily put all thouse coupons into one job. Would be easier not to wipe everything.

                      Why not though?

"White Mage voucher" This coupon entitles the user to 1 level in the White Mage job.

                      Etc.

I just realized I ignored an entire part of your last post, soz.

Anyhoo, if you have some sort of process to tally people's job levels to distribute the appropriate job vouchers, it's probably just as easy to have the levels automatically distributed. In fact, it would probably be best, so that people couldn't wait until later levels to use those vouchers for easy levels.

mmm yeah I guess its the same as it was with Star Wars Galaxies, even though the game is only about 4 months old, its a little to late to reset everything.

People paid money for the game (the initial box price), but haven't been charged the monthly fee as of yet.

I almost expected that to be the case. It's one of those things that should absolutely be in an MMO but that SE would totally leave out.
