    FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

    Gathering

    Q.
What exactly do Disciple of the Land–specific attributes affect?

    A.
    Please refer to the following:
Gathering: Reduces the depletion rate of the Remainder gauge.

Perception: Increases a player's chance to find higher-quality items.

    Output:
Increases the amount of times a miner or botanist can gather at a single point, as well as reduces the amount of time a fisher must wait for a bite.

    Q.
I found a grade 5 mature tree while exploring Iron Lake the other day, but when I pulled out my trusty hatchet, I was only able to log once. What gives?

    A.
It may be that your skill rank is too low for that grade of tree. Each grade of gathering point has certain skill requirements. The farther below that requirement you are, the fewer gathering opportunities you will be granted. If you find you are being limited to one or two attempts, it may be better to move to an area with lower grade points.
The following is a guide to find certain grades of gathering points:

Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 Grade 4 Grade 5 La Noscea Bearded Rock Skull Valley Bloodshore Cedarwood Iron Lake Thanalan Black Brush Drybone Horizon's Edge Nophica's Wells Halatali The Black Shroud Bentbranch Emerald Moss Tranquil Paths Humblehearth Treespeak

    Q.
Sometimes when I fish, it seems like I wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and nothing ever bites. Am I doing anything wrong?

    A.
It may be that the bait you are using is not suited for the location you have chosen to fish. Some types of bait are better suited for freshwater species found in lakes and rivers, while others are better for attracting sea-dwelling creatures. Always check the help text of your bait and lures before placing them in your pouch.

    Q.
Even after I finish gathering and receive the "There is nothing left to gather at this location" message, the gathering point continues to flash, as if there were something still there. No matter how long I wait, though, I cannot gather there again. Why is that?

    A.
To prevent the exploitation of Eorzea's limited resources, Disciples of the Land are encouraged to visit several locations, rather than continuously deplete a single area. After gathering from one point, try visiting others. In time, you will find the first point will become available again. If you are having trouble finding other points, the following actions can help:
Class Action Details Miner Lay of the Land Survey the landscape to locate mineral deposits. Prospect Survey the landscape to discern the number and direction of mineral deposits in the area. Increases movement speed when far. Botanist Arbor Call Survey the landscape to locate mature trees. Triangulate Survey the landscape to discern the number and direction of mature trees in the area. Increases movement speed when far. Fisher Gulleye Survey the landscape to locate schools of fish. Dowse Survey the landscape to discern the number and direction of schools of fish in the area. Increases movement speed when far.

FINALLY! A clear explanation of what Gathering Output and Perception do!

It's good to know that stacking Gathering and then Output (in that order) was a good way for me to go and now I know I can safely ignore Perception for the most part. One thing about HQ items ... they're mostly good for overburdening the inventory system. Unlike combat where they got rid of +1 and +2 quailties, you have these still for gathering, and your inventory ballons in the blink of an eye.

Someone told me that it was similar to the problem in Hellsgate: London where they had a Diablo inventory and too many items and you had to figure out very quickly what you should get rid of or keep. Not a pleasant situation to constantly place players in.

lol this is me in almost every survival horror game >.> I'm a notorious pack rat and thus go into fits of agony when I have to leave ammo or medical supplies etc behind in favor of others.

lol sorry to derail again but I just had to throw this out there, because of how absurd it was and I still somewhat hate myself for doing it even though it was hilarious.

Was nearing the end of chapter 13 on DS2, in a 3-level room and there was simply more ammo on the floor than I could carry. Well, I knew there was a save station/store/bench combo station coming up (was on my 2nd playthrough on New Game Plus on Casual setting, because I wanted to stockpile supplies for my run on Zealot difficulty - Lordy did I ever need it too.)

So what I did was grab all the ammo with Kinesis and throw it all from the top level to the bottom. I also knew that the last door was going to become locked after I crossed through, so I painstakingly grabbed said ammo and and launched it across the room with the door still open, one at a time, literally dragging the supplies all the way to the last safe room so I could dump them in storage.

I AM A GOD DAMNED PACK RAT! @_@ I was laughing & kicking myself the entire time for doing something so asinine XD wish I'd been able to record it.

You and me both. With both my alts saddled with crap on their personages which means I can't do leves with them either and the fact that I have no room on my main personage means ... yes ... a 7th retainer was born last week and an 8th eventually (4th alt) How does one go about filling nearly 900 slots of inventory space in an FF game? LOL

-22 stacks of silex (will not sell and I'm mortified about the prospects of vendoring it AND THEN needing it later on after they run the next two patches that will change recipes, etc)
-12 stacks of brass ingots (from leve rewards onry)
-enough dodo skins to synthesize about 480 dodo leather
-finally sold off sheepskins ... had enough at one point to craft over 1,000 sheep leather
            -16 stacks of minium
            -12 stacks of iron nuggets
-stacks and stacks of logs, ingots, cloth, flax, etc.
-I don't even want to talk about the stacks (yes, stacks) of holiday items, like dream materials and over 3 dozen of those kabuto helm thingies (red ones, the one you need to make silver and black)

If I were to liquidate everything at prime offering I'd probably have over 100 million gils easily...
