Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section >< but I do not see a server section or a recruit section anywhere on these forums.

About Us
We are a mid-core linkshell located on the palamecia server. This linkshell was started by a group of friends who have the same goal in mind on what a linkshell should be. One interesting fact about our linkshell is that we are an Oligarchy, this means we do not have 1 single leader instead the linkshell is run by a group of officers. As such all decisions are decided as a group amongst the leaders.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for dedicated active individuals who have a good head on their shoulders. We also would like to remind those interested in joining that we have a very diverse linkshell. This means we have people from all walks of life, so we only welcome those with an open mind. Below is a list of a few things each member must pass before applying to our linkshell:

• You MUST have access and use Teamspeak (even if you dont have a mic).
• You MUST be over the age of 18 years old.
• You MUST be willing to get along with others, and if you have a problem all you need to do is bring it to the attention of an officer, we are here to listen and keep an enjoyable environment for our linkshell members.

We would also like to remind those who are interested in joining to read our Code of Conduct before applying. If you feel you fit our membership requirements then feel free to Register and fill out an application!

Paranor Code of Conduct
Paranor is a LS made up of many people from various walks of life. Paranor is ran as an oligarchy. Paranor's Code of Conduct is as follows and subject to change as seen fit.

1. TeamSpeak is mandatory, no exceptions. You do not have to have a mic. but you need to use TeamSpeak so you can hear those that do.
2. Harassment to anyone in Paranor or in FFXIV is not tolerated and grounds for immediate removal from Paranor.
3. FFXIV is a game and each member should have fun. Please be mindful that we have a very diverse community, and as such if someone is offended by certain language try to refrain from using it.
4. If any LS member has an issue with another member please bring it to the attention of an officer so that it can be dealt with.
5. Paranor runs an open door policy if you have a suggestion, complaint, issue, etc. please bring it to the attention of an officer. (List of officers is under members tab)
6. Paranor is a LS with members age 18+ No Exceptions!
7. You can't spam linkchat, guild forums, etc, with complaints about the game nor may you be an RMT. If you do any of the following you may be removed from Paranor. If you break SE ToS you will be removed from Paranor. If you have an issue with the game please contact SE with feedback. SQUARE ENIX Support Center
8. Any action that proves to be adverse to the LS by another member can be grounds for removal from the LS.
9. Remember this is a game have fun. Joke with your LS mates

All LS members are to know the C.o.C. Which means you can not plead ignorance if you are removed from the LS.

Too organized, and lost me at the mandatory team speak part,I'm not sure why but these kind of shells remind me of no-lifer HNMLSes from FFXI.

Anyhow, I'm not here to bash anybody, GL on finding members.

How did you get lost at the mandatory team speak requirement? They specifically said you don't need to have a mic, just be able to listen in on everyone else. Which is pretty much essential for any guild serious about accomplishing more difficult tasks and goals. I don't think it is too much to ask for you to download a FREE software program to listen to important conversations that take part in their guild.

Anyway, I'm not part of this LS I just found this forum again through google and browsed around and found this thread. I just thought your comment was silly and completely unnecessary.

Convenient but not essential, many of FFXI's major shells had no need for voice chat in events, and lets face it other than the new 3 or 5 NMs we got, there's nothing serious enough to warrant micro management through voice chat.

I've been in several serious endgame shells and being on vent/teamspeak is not necessary to do an event. Does it help? Yes, it is faster and easier to relay instructions through voice than it is through typing. Can it make a difference? Yes, you will be more efficient. But in the end player skill is a much bigger factor than having a voice chat program. In the shells I was in, you'd find the greedier ass kissing people on voice chat. They'd be sucking up to leadership, grabbing spots in exp parties cause they'd hear about it first in voice chat, volunteering for farming/helping out first to earn brownie points, etc.... and all of this would lead to them getting dibs on drops usually. I was leadership in most of my shells so I speak from experience. On average we'd have 15ish people on vent and at least another 10 typing. The biggest issue that I found was relaying instructions before an event, you'd talk about them on vent but forget to type them out to everyone else. Usually members had done whatever we were doing before and had an idea of what to do, but in FFXIV all this shit is new and everyone is learning.

I predict that the Teamspeak requirement will be optional eventually. If the PS3 version is ever released, what are they going to do if they want to join? Are you going to limit your application pool to PC ONRY? I like using vent but I don't like being told that I HAVE to.

I understand and respect everyone's opinions on this matter. The fact remains tho that we only recruit members willing to use teamspeak. If you are not willing to use it, then by all means dont join. You would not be hurting us any bec obviously your not what we were looking for in the first place.

Oh and further note that this is for FFXIV not FFXI. The comparison is irrelevant since they are both entirely different games.

Not going to question what you guys want, but in my opinion you're missing out on a lot of potentially good players by trying to enforce voice chat. Personally I'd hate having to get on teamspeak all the time, because I prefer listening to music over listening to people talk about the game I'm playing, while I play it.

Yes I can understand that, but you can easily just go to the "AFK" channel. There are many reasons we have this rule, one of which being some of our members do not pay attention to LS chat. I can see the benefit of not enforcing such a rule, but in the end it is not what we chose to do. We are looking for VERY specific people.

BTW this decision was not mine alone, we are an oligarchy so we decided the guidelines as a group.

I don't see an issue as I'm used to this kind of rule in WoW (Some guilds in WoW were more draconian ... Paranor's rules are very light in comparison) Although I can understand both sides of the debate because this was a hot button issue in FFXI and there were a lot of people who went at each other's throats on this. Let's all try to remain calm and civil about this (I don't care either way, although I primarily use Vent myself)

No one is forcing any of you to join Paranor.
No one is forcing any of you to follow Paranor's rules.
Therefore, there is no reason to get butt hurt over said rules.

And there is no reason to come into the thread and berate people having a civil discussion about ls's using voice chat. Either join the discussion with valid points or quit trolling.

It has nothing to do with comparing the two games, it's about endgame mentality in any MMORPG.

There are many reasons we have this rule, one of which being some of our members do not pay attention to LS chat.

From my experience, if they don't read ls chat they won't listen on voice chat either. They are usually the people that are playing DS or PSP...or doing something and not paying attention. They tend to take off their headsets too.

It is not that they dont want to pay attention to LS chat, its the way the game is designed at the present moment when you do anything the chat log moves very quickly. Most of the people in our ls are crafters, and as such need to pay attention to what they are doing on the screen. They dont have time to scroll up and down looking for what people have said.

We also use Teamspeak to build stronger bonds with each other. Not only does it assist us in uniting our linkshell personally. It also makes things a hell of a lot easier.

Oh and one more thing about the headsets. No one is saying YOU MUST be talking to anyone or keep your headset on for hours. Hell you can just go down to afk take off your headset and listen to music for all we care. We just want the members to get involved and if they expect any type of help from anyone that is something they must do.

Just wanted to let everyone know we also host ls events ^^ one of which is coming up very soon!

Thanks to Mijo Ramhorn and Granas Nightroad for the following event!

On Jan 15, 2011 3:00 pm EST we will be doing the Winner Takes all Run for your Life! Any LS members may sign up. There is a small entrance fee in which the winner of the contest will receive as a prize! You may use any job you want to do this run, however teleporting is strictly forbidden. If you are caught teleporting you will be disqualified. The event will take 2-3 hours to complete so make sure if you sign up you have time to complete the event. This event is not for the faint of heart, but will be fun and a chance to explore and possibly get camps and nodes that you may not have. Further details on the event will come in the next couple weeks.

Application Fee: 75 Shards of each element and 10 Crystals of your choice!

You can now sign up for this event under events or on the homepage. Details are being kept quite so that people do not have an unfair advantage. This will be a fun event and one that will be remembered. Plus this is a way to break the monotony of crafting, battle leves, and just plain grinding. Hope everyone will join! Remember the more that join the bigger the over-all reward!
