Taking Advantage of CrossfireX for FFXIV

For people who have blocks at work or wherever

How I enabled CrossfireX for my 5850's to improve my game performance
Warning: Sometimes the client doesn't load in right, just exit the game and relog and your screen will sync better, it has to do with the Crossfire not syncing properly, sometimes I got right in with no problems, others it would not fire up right

1. Downloaded RadeonPro Here.

2. Installed RadeonPro

3. Opened RadeonPro and clicked on "Add new profile"

4. Pointed the new profile to C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\ffxivgame.exe

5. Clicked on Advanced Tab, Checked Catalyst AI and set it to Advanced, Clicked on CrossfireX Settings at the bottom (you can make it show the logo when its in use if you want, I don't because it goes right where I want my minimap)

6. Clicked on the Tweaks Tab, Changed MVPU mode to "Alternate Frame Rendering"

*End Result* I am able to play 30FPS Fullscreen at 1920x1200, 8x AA, Window Size Buffer, Highest Shadows, Ambient Occulusion=on, depth of field=on

**Without this trick? Same settings only get me about 14-16FPS

I can confirm that this works, and I wanted to share with the community.

Also, for the record, I use it with the handy tool I found on this website, which enables me to remove the border from a windowed game (essentially giving me the "full screen experience").

I'm using the FFXIV Windower before SE sent out those Cease and Desist letters. You might be able to find it somewhere.

Wishmaster: I tried this this morning. It works. I have the same cards that the OP stated he was using. Not sure if it works for others, but I'm sure any crossfire-X would result the same way. I hit 31FPS when I used to cap at 18... all I can say is EPIC.

My power level is OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a FFXIV windower?

Did it make the game playable? And if it did, why would SE get rid of something that could help make the game enjoyable?

Funny you should ask that because it never did anything but allow fullscreen mode (because, let's face it, SE never has allowed it and probably will never allow it) and add in additional hooks for "future development purposes". That last bit was what got SE worried and thus the "cease and desist" letter. The Windower never made it past the initial stage of development which was to allow fullscreen mode with little to zero impact on system performance and at a very, very small footprint, of which it does this very, very well. So well, in fact, that it was and still is the best out there because it doesn't require a single update (and hasn't yet) since the last official release. Plus, SE can't detect it, because it is a bit different in how it operates from the usual "hack and crack" programs employed by many RMT and insidious players out there.

(I also have to say that Cliff from FFXI Windower had a small hand in this version so you may find some of his trademark coding ... if you are able to be fortunate to get the code)

Oh I see. So I guess it's either crappy window or un-tab-able full screen mode yet again?

I (foolishly) assumed SE had included alt-tab-iness in XIV seeing how well it worked for XI with the windower. Silly me.

Aeni and Ray, the tool I use lets me play in "Windowed" mode but removes the border, so I get the full screen experience.

Now, this is important to me because I have multiple monitors, but are you both referring to that fact that in a "single-monitor" environment, Full-Screen is ideal for GPU usage and you just wish you could still alt-tab?

FS Mode (The real full screen mode) does not work with Alt-Tab in the game. Windowed mode can, but as you say, you gotta deal with the borders.

If you recall, early in Alpha, SE promised to allow FS Mode to work with Alt-Tab. Throughout Beta, many players kept asking SE if they were going to "fix" the issue, since it wasn't working the way it should. Now into live, they don't seem to care much about letting us Alt-Tab, but maybe new management/vision will change their minds about this.

(This is why I can play in FS mode AND alt-tab w/o crashing)

Yes. Although until I get in front of my own computer, I wont be able to tell you difinitively what it is.
