    FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

Deep within the shadows of the Black Shroud lurks a wolf so fearsome, so terrifying, so unnatural, that local villagers have little choice but to cower in their homes, lest they become his next victim. Legends call the beast Deadeyes, and he is unlike any creature the forest has ever seen. As alpha male, he exhibits the cunning and composure of an army general while leading his pack of slavering minions through the region, showing mo mercy to those unfortunate enough to fall in their path. There has been many a proud hunter boast he will be the one to finally capture Deadeyes, but as of yet, none have survived to fulfill that claim...

    Operation: Wolfsbane
Recently, there have been numerous reports of a pack of bloodthirsty wolves attacking farmsteads deep within in the Black Shroud. According to eyewitness accounts, the pack is led by a ferocious alpha male with glowing red eyes, and the attacks have been conducted with a military-like precision unlike anything ever seen in the wild. The Brotherhood of the Broken Blade is calling upon its loyal brothers and sisters to join in the patrolling of frequently attacked areas, not only in order to protect the lives of those living there, but also to determine once and for all who is truly behind these assaults.

    Levequest Location
    Treespeak

Those who are successful in slaying Deadeyes will be rewarded with a special item known as an Allagan runestone. There are a dozen in all, each representing one of the twelve deities who watch over the peoples of Eorzea. Rumor has that in Ul'dah resides a young trader who seeks these rare stones and is offering pieces of finely crafted equipment in exchange.

The following is an example of some of the items available for barter:

    Harlequin Attire
Crafted for use by jongleurs, magicians, and other performing artists, this lightweight armor provides protection while still allowing the wearer freedom of movement. An extra layer of arcane wards woven into the cloth not only gives a boost to defense against maleficent enchantments, but also improves versatility with magic.

and now a Mentos commercial, mew!

    here are some reactions:
I am extremely against this. This new way of handling NMs is not ideal. They have eliminated the whole "hunting" aspect of NMs. Now you just wait 1.5 days, use a leve, and then go and fight an NM that is "personally spawned" for you. There is absolutely no rarity to NMs now. Everybody and his brother will have the NM gear and benefits that come from hunting NMs. These USED to be prized possessions and often meant that you went to great lengths to earn that sweet piece of gear, or beneficial item. No no. Not anymore. Now we're just giving the shit away, 1.5 days at time.
Sorry, but you are in favour of the system that forced you to stand around for hours on end waiting for one monster to spawn, just for the chance to beat the 20 other players in claiming it first, just for the chance to actually get the drop? Yeah, it meant you went to great lengths - great lengths of being bored and snubbing other players to get ahead. I'm sure the NM quests will be hard enough that the drops are pretty rare, and will still be seen as great accomplishments. It just won't mean that several other players sat and waited at a spawn location for nothing.
According to the update plan, both leve and open world NMs are planned.
I am completely for this way of doing it, it will keep the RMT and anyone else from camping the NM for themselves.

That aside, unless a randomly spawned NM is designed to generally just murder people (instead of just being a routine chore), I'm partial to the concept of leve-based NMs.

These leve-NM isn't awarding random gear, it's awarding tokens which the player will trade for gear. This isn't much different from how games are typically handling it, these days. I'm sure the campable NMs will actually drop gear.

I like this way of doing it much better rather than standing there for hours on end just for a chance at a drop against others players.

For once I am saying this...

        Kudos SE!

but what does this mean? When a NM leve is used, the player/party is warped to an instance with the NM?

But if the NM spawns where they are, what if multiple players/parties use them at the sametime, the same NM would appear in the same spot as clones? Even if no one can claim an NM from someone else's leve, that would appear chaotic seeing clones of the NM being fought in the same area by different parties fighting their respective clone of the NM.

Jenova... Think! Its probably instanced. SE has learned some even though they have done many mistakes with this game.

oh well I was just making sure! It makes sense the party would be in the NM instance. I'm sure NM leves will support more party members.

I heard the main story missions/instances only accept up to 2 players, which sounds awful. I don't think it's true though.

Yes, but you really need to think at times though Jenova

Also, I haven't touched the game so I don't know about the mission things. I would guess it would be like the BCNMS in FFXI.

I think this "is it good or bad" argument is kinda silly. Have you seen that gear? Who wouldn't want to look like a Jester while they whoop ass? I certainly do!

What's that? Behind you!!!! LOOK OUT!!! ZOMG!!!! It's a coin! A chocolate coin too! Score!

This kid needs to grow the fuck up. SE is finally doing the right thing by removing any and all drama from hunting NMs. No more bickering or arguing over who gets what, thank God, STFU you crybaby. This is precisely what I'd hoped SE would do from the beginning with 14.

                        Here's the only thing I don't get;

So you don't have to change clothes when you feel like crafting? or add it to your crafting gear macro set?

There are no such things as an item budget in FFXIV so SE can do w/e they want. Like J9 said, this just makes it so that you don't need to lug around 2 sets of gear (assuming you are rank appropriate though - this won't help you if you have crafting at rank 10 and the DOM class at rank 50)
