  • FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period (EXTENDED)

As always, we would like to express our gratitude to all players enjoying their adventures in Eorzea.

Today, we have decided to extend the free trial period an additional 30 days. Please refer to the following for more details.

We have also added a Topics post detailing a portion of the content heading your way in the two large-scale version updates slated for late November and mid-December. This month’s version update, tentatively scheduled for November 25, marks the first step in bringing about significant improvement to FINAL FANTASY XIV, guided in large part by the feedback you, the players, have provided. We are adamant that you should be given the opportunity to experience these changes firsthand before deciding to fully commit to the game. We encourage everyone to view today’s post, as well as the previous Topics post from November 11 outlining the development team’s roadmap for the coming months. Further details regarding payment options and future version updates will be posted as they become available.

      They are getting desperate.

Question for PC players. Would you rather play the game as it is, with minor tweaks coming in Nov-Dec to fix things that shouldn't need to be fixed, or would you rather have the game taken offline, and fixed properly, from the ground up, with a re-release end of March alongside the PS3 version?

You can't put a band aid on a severed limb. It's not going to get better until S-E realizes just how bad they fucked up.

Maybe, but all the fixes to the game's issues won't make it fun to play- just less frustrating.

Its what PC gamers do, Dak.

The sheer level of arrogance and sense of entitlement that comes with "I built this to play X game" is enough to to make the most ardent console fanboy ashamed to be in the same room with a PC gamer at times. And to think I'd consider them otherwise more mature than the console community, but not when it comes to gameplay matters, because where console gamers will roll with the punches, PC gamers will cry like a little girl with a skinned knee if its not suited to taste.

And to think they're actually the ones that push most PC developers to get games out the door before they're really done, but freak out when "we'll release it when its done" types like Valve or Blizzard release a new game "too soon" in their estimation, its a "cash grab."

Even though Left 4 Dead 2 was good.

And right now they're probably having night terrors over Blizzard considering a console version of Diablo III. They're already out there insisting Diablo III will somehow be "dumbed down" for consoles and that Blizzard shouldn't do it. I guess we can just ignore the last decade of Diablo clones on consoles, handhelds and, hell, now even on iphone.

It's the little things that made FFXIV a mess, and it's the little things they're currently fixing. Fullscreen without alt-tab? That's an issue. Not utilizing SLI? That's an issue, espesially with such a graphically intensive game.

Desperate, probably, but at least they're "trying". Can't complain about another month of free-play when you already decided to stick with the game as it is.

Irony... I'm not a PC gamer- I was just throwing out the question to PC gamers. I'm waiting on the PS3 version... but getting less enthusiastic about it as time passes. I hope by March I will have a good product to look forward to... if they dont delay it another 3 months.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period (EXTENDED)

I am surprised and glad SE has taken this move, mew!

Very good strategy but ya I think desperation has forced them to take this action, SE is usually too arrogant to see its faults, but I guess reality hit them so hard that it made them that much more serious about doing things right for a change. World criticism can reach their front door, I guess. I guess the Japanese community and sales forecasts was loud enough to wake them up.

But ya, as long as they work really hard to make things better soon, then things could get even better from there!
But yes another free trial period is a great way to give them a chance to redeem themselves!

If good decisions are made like this, eventually, people will be too busy having fun to recall how bad it started out.
And then eventually those bad review scores won't mean anything, since FFXIV will be almost like a new game at a new level of quality!

but ya as for PS3 version, if they delay it, that is a good thing too because that will make it have an even better launch! Things improve with time, so as the PC version gets better, so would the PS3 version! So its best to release PS3 when the PC version and updates are at a point where PS3 can have a successful launch and better foundation than what PC version started with, and build from there.

Now they just have to add chocobo usage and new classes (Fencer, Musketeer, etc.) and improve thing soon, mew!

At this point, free trial extension and the fixes won't be enough to make people stay, they have to give incentives to give them reasons to keep playing, mew! They shouldn't withhold content that is already ready!

Still not making me want to sit in one place for 3 hours getting weaving from 19 to 20, only hitting the X button. Or joining a large group where you just gang rape the monster.

                              OH FUN--
