Comprehensive Content of Upcoming Large-Scale Version Updates (11/11/2010)
Re: Comprehensive Content of Upcoming Large-Scale Version Updates (11/11/2010)
I added an amount of unfounded cynicism to my comments that I felt would appropriately balance j9's unfounded optimism. Of course, there was a great deal of cynicism before I added more.
I'm glad for the change and it addresses most of the issues I've found in the game. But if you look over the list very, very carefully (and if you're currently playing the game) you'll realize that majority of what's listed is scheduled new content releases (stuff they would've done regardless of how the game was reviewed) I'm just particularly interested in only a few changes because I'm somewhat content with the rest of the game. Is it perfect? No. Do I expect perfection? No. Do I think more can be done? Sure ... any gamer could feel that way with just about any game out there. But my personal belief is that a few glaring technical issues should've been taken care of first as the more cosmetic issues would not have disillusioned the bulk of the players out there to the degree that it has.

I'm not sure there's enough cynicism on this entire forum to counter the blind optimism of J9's posts. And that's saying an awful lot.

FFXIV is really shaping up to be the greatest game in the industry, mew! You'll see! More people are starting to think positive!
no...no we are not... hell and this coming from someone who defended this damn game all the way through alpha/beta, day one of release, I was disappointed.
will this update make me come back? I don't think so, will it make me look it's way again? Yes.

Very encouraging suff. Minus of course, the fact that this is all shit that should have been done in beta prior to release. But at least SE is learning, right?
Thankfully between Black Ops and all the recent kick ass updates to XI, I think can tolerate putting XIV away until March. Just keep the good news coming SE, and get ready to spend a metric crap tonne of money on your PR campaign with PS3 adds. It's going to take a monumental effort to overcome all the negative stigma you've wrought upon yourselves.
Re: Comprehensive Content of Upcoming Large-Scale Version Updates (11/11/2010)
I'm pretty pleased myself, even though we should have had this stuff ready on release.
For me, taking into account that other than paying for the game (which all players will do)
I'm still in free trial so still didn't pay any fees.
I'm getting closer to 50 on my main class.
I got all my GLA gear ready all way to 50 with weapons, now need jewelry.
I've got enough gil to last me a long time.
I know almost everything I need to know to enjoy the game once its "complete".
So if I decided to stop playing and come back when the game is good enough, most of my grunt work is done and I can enjoy the fun stuff (fighting big things, exploring, just chillin' without knowing that this is time I should be using on ARM) instead of crafting and farming all the time.
You're forgetting the part where my life turned around and I'm a pretty cheery fellow these days.
That said, I held on to my cynic's toolkit, I just have a very hard time caring anymore. It's just the whole having a life thing, plus seeing from miles away that FFXIV was going to be shit. Hell, wasn't I the first person on the forum to say they wouldn't be playing it? (Of the people that ever considered it)
Plus, J9 is kind of refreshing anyway. I like having it around.

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!
... couldn't resist
Speaking of Jewelry though, anyone else wishing they'd axe the stupid slot requirement for them? They add all these extra new slots for gear, but then give you a numeric total that your accessories can't exceed (12) which is just weak

I totally agree. I hadn't even noticed until the game prompted me with the "you're already wearing enough" message.
Also... on a seperate note... how come the repair NPCs dont offer repairs to jewlery along with the rest of your gear when you talk to them? I do almost all of my repairs myself at this point, but Goldsmithing is something I never even started... now I either have to deal with the distracting "you're suffering gear damage" icon or find a friggen goldsmith to make my repairs for me.

You know, this might not be a problem at all. Notice how you're able to add more abilities to your action list as you gain levels? The more ranks you obtain, the more points you accumulate which allows for additional abilities. The same could be true of your accessories restriction. Someone needs to go and find out if this number changes and scales with your class rank (not physical level)

I doubt that very much. Also notice how some of the higher level accessories take up even more points.
