  • The Official "How the Hell do I...?" Thread

As I progress through the game, I've been asking a lot of questions on a few forums and I've noticed a lot of people asking a lot of uncommon questions. This thread is for the people who are asking those questions that don't necesserly qualify as FAQs. I want to do my best to help out this community in answering some of the random WTF questions that I know everyone is encountering... especially with how new and buggy the game is at the moment. I know the moderators are getting an influx of questions and probably have a hard time answering them all.

I know I'm not usually the go-to guy for questions, but I would like to change that if I can. I really like this forum and I want to start giving back to the community here. Please feel free to ask me anything you'd like to know. I assure you that I either have the answer, or i can pass you along to the person/website that does.

It looks like I neglected to include my schedule. I'm sorry for my absence. I work from Tuesday - Friday from 2:00pm until 11:00pm EST. Those are really the only time's I'm online and glued to my screen. From Saturday through Monday I'm out and about and rarely check forums/email for anything. If a question is particularly pressing or interesting, II do get updates to my phone and will try and pop on to give answers when I can. Other than that, I hope the other denizens of the forum can help me out o those days by answering the questions when I'm not around.

Sorry again... and let the questions continue!

There's plenty of threads to complain about FFXIV. Let's not make this one of them, shall we? The topic at hand is How-to. Please stick to it.

Someone have a good grind spot for a R16 marauder? I've been spending most of my time crafting and testing stuff out that I neglected the one class I rolled on.

Many appologies on the late reply. I should have mentioned it in my initial thread post, but I spend Sat, Sun and Monday with my family/doing errands/not on teh intrawebz. I'll edit the OP to reflect that.

Anywho... back to your question. It depends (all-be-it very little aparently) on your gear. If you're appropriately geared/abilititied?, your best bet at 16 would be to solo DoDos near Skull Valley. If you have a partner (preferably a Conj or a Thaum (with cure) you can probably take on Crabs in the same area. I would suggest crabs near/around the Gridania area, but they're few and far between. Monkeys to the northwest of Gridania are also a good option. Unfortunately, it seems that the developers did a poor job of supplying (in-between) mobs for levels 11-18 for us. From what I can tell in my travels thus-far, theres a huge jump between EP mobs and IT mobs. Around lvl 13 or so everything is either Blue (EP) or RED (IT)... with the occasional Yellow (DC) or Orange (T) mob thrown in the mix. From 11-14 I hunted down Copper Metroids outside of Ul'Dah since they went down easy (2-3 hits) and were usually Green (EM). After that tings got slow for me as I got higher.

Until they introduce a little more variety in mobs throughout the world and design a few more "camps" for the various level gaps, you might have to make due with what you can through leves and small bands of 2-3 players taking on some IT mobs.

If anyone knows of a good camp for these levels, let me know too. I'm kinda drowning solo at 18 Conj atm with very little motivation to level any of my other 10th level jobs until I can do it faster than Conj took me.

            I hope this helps.

Thanks Ice. I'm all for a good joke myself, but I agree that there are already too many threads that mock FFXIV as it is. I've already admitted that I'm far from an expert, but I'm trying to help out others as best I can. My wealth of knowledge is growing every day and I want to do what i can to share it with those out there who can benefit from my help.

Also... I agree that there should be an AH... but my dreams of that have been thoroughly squashed. I prefer to focus on realism... not (disappointment-filled) hope.

I think I need a new bestest friend ... lol. It seems that having someone with secondary heals would be useful and a Marauder with a sub heal ... isn't ideal. I think I'll level up Pug and find out how much that heal does for me. In the meantime, since I'm such a nice guy, I gave away my axe to someone in the LS and told them to save their gil. I'll go craft another later but I can use this as an excuse to level another class.
