I assume posting this here isn't against the rules. I know FFXIVCore spazzed about it when the site owner posted it there, but I assume no one here cares.

Anyways, a fan of FF made a facebook/twitter site for XIV characters. Honestly, I think it's pretty nice and sorta wish the lodestone was this way. Check it out, yeah?

Social network for Final Fantasy XIV game characters / Fantaji

My character: Little Boots (littleboots) / Fantaji

Edit: Lawls. I spelled the thread title wrong.

I signed up but I'm wary of the origins and who runs the site. Account thieves are quite nefarious and have become very sophisticated as of late and has penetrated the realm of social media before (MySpace et al)

Eh. I'm really not all that worried about it. If this was a Core site, I definitely would stay away from it. Not to mention, ESET does a terrific job of protecting my PC and connection from these things.

Is this really necessary when Lodestone actually gives each and every registered character in the game their own blog?

Lodestone offers you to stalk a player while Fantaji allows you to have a face to face public discourse. I see big differences between the two O.o

Not to mention this is a much easier way for me to make buddies with other crafters on our server.

Hi Aeni, I'm the one who runs the site. Your concerns are legitimate and let me try to address them the best I can. My step brother and I are developing the site and are doing this pretty much full time. We also have some friends working on this with us, friends that we've met in game back in the XI days when I founded the Summit LS on Caitsith - that later became known as Millenium.

Here is what our site looked like back in 2004 using the WayBackMachine (archive.org)
              Summit - Home

Now that should cover the origins part of your question. As to Fantaji we are not asking you any account information aside from your character name. We build your profile with publicly accessible information from Lodestone.

I hope this dissipate some of the fears you have. We are simply just trying to make something cool for people to use - something that we ourselves want to use as well. Let me know if you have any more questions! Cheers

That's a fair question. My answer to this is that the difference with our profile pages and those you find on forums or on lodestone lies in the "spirit" of the site. Many people won't bother to update their profiles/blog on Lodestone because they're hidden a few clicks down and most people don't look at them. Whereon Fantaji the profiles are the center - the core feature. This changes the dynamic greatly.

Forums excels at discussions and debating topics in length, etc. Lodestone is kind of an information site that does well for announcements. Our site doesn't do well at that, but does well with short status updates and helps you find out at what your friends (or fellow players) are up to.

Thank you for taking the time out to explain and educate us about your website and idea. I think this is a nice idea to get poeple together and maybe hopefully cooperate in ways that has never been done before in an MMO game

So you're rehashing already widely used products, targeting them towards people that play a specific online game, and spending pretty much all of your time on it...?

We decided to do this because we were like darn... I wonder what all those friends we used to play XI with are today. We were like, wouldn't that be cool if there were a "Facebook for FFXI/IV". That's how the idea spun. We built the site for ourselves and our friends and then realized that we could maybe open it to other people as well.

We are both developers and had already built the backend for another project of ours that we've been working on for 2+ years, thus why we are on this full time

His time, not yours, and people seem to love it.

                      I see no problem.
