What I've been saying is that SE took the list of "things that need to be fixed in FFXI when we don't have PS2 Limitations", and made that their design document for FFXIV. Since "stuff that already works well in FFXI" was not part of that document, none of that went into FFXIV. Since they didn't have much basic game mechanics in there, they made shit up as they went along that they thought sounded cool, without ever asking "but will it be fun?"

It's Second System Effect with a vengeance.

Others have said it's like the FFXIV designers never played another MMO except maybe FFXI, so they are now making some of the same mistakes that other MMOs made ten years ago.

When in /heal mode, ALL jobs in FFXI recover HP and MP. Some just recover MP faster because of Clear Mind job traits. (are you people already forgetting how FFXI works?)

Then there's auto regen/auto refresh where you get a point or two while standing up. Only certain jobs, like WHM have auto-regen. Just as only certain jobs, like PLD and I think SMN have auto-refresh. And I don't think you get those at level 1, but you do get them when your subjob can.

The MP regen system they have isn't as bad as the XI fanboys make it out to be. On Guildleves you are never far from the crystal you took it from or a node to teleport back. Heck you can even use return to get back to the last crystal you used or just simple teleport to another crystal. I have a friend who plays a Conjurer and he says that he has never had MP issues at all unless I'm being particularly suicidal with mob pulls during leves.

Yeah had to go to a friend's wedding which took up most of my weekend

A friend did help me out with some leves by healbotting so I could catch up a little. It was actually quite funny because usually I'm his pocket healer on other games .

Not only that but look at how much freaking MP you have even at level 1...

It doesn't matter when you are on a Guildleve. You can not recover mp/hp at the Aetheryte while on a Guildleve.

And it also depends on what level Guildleves you are doing. My group was under level 10 (I think I was 6) and we were in the 10+ area doing Guildleves and choosing level 3 difficulty. I ran out of mp, let me tell you! We beat most of them except for the ones I ran out of mp on! So it can depend on your playing style also, and when you have a level 10 wanting to kill anglers that hit for 200-400 a pop. Or this....

Re: Recovering Mp and Mog House?

Those Sand Larzons, or whatever they're called, are powerful. I had my shield up and defender on, and they were hitting for 100 damage. Their acid spit was way worse, and it seemed like they would coordinate and use it at the same time.

But yea, magic is extremely powerful and I've yet to have an issue with recovering it. When working outside of a leve, I would probably be more conservative, but there's no way I could run out of MP during one.

Also, aethyrite will restore HP and MP once every ten minutes. And the MP restore ability conjurers get doesn't work for my gladiator.

Re: Recovering Mp and Mog House?

The leves scale in difficulty. A lot of people I talked to were like, "yeah man, this stuff is easy peasy, let's do raid level difficulty!" back at level 5 or so doing level 1 leves. Well, the level 10+ leves get progressively difficult. No one can get hit capped, for example, unless they are stat stacking certain stats and gear. So when you get thrown a leve like "The Swarm" and face mobs with evasion that will put a tarutaru ninja in af2 to shame, then you're forced to down rank difficulties all the way to solo for a 3-man group.

I have to say that the most fun I've had was last night when my healer friend bit the dust and I'm like the only guy tanking 4 Dodos (2 leve, 2 outside mobs) because my other friend couldn't help himself and went balls-to-walls with his aoe. Defensive posturing for Marauders are the most effective way to aoe tank and keep threat up really nicely. You just don't mitigate as much as an appropriately geared gladiator.

I WISH! lol We 3 man all leves and do it on rank 4 difficulty. We've only failed one so far but that doesn't mean it isn't a death match now and again! lol I swear....if they ever suggest a rank 5...Alt Tab is my friend....

We don't have a mage ... it would be so easy with a mage and then someone who can taunt. I'm working on it though ... I may just switch to my gladiator toon since it would be so much easier to "tank" against an overeager healer. I noticed that one cast of sacrifice seems to generate so much aggro that it even attracts the attention of Bin Laden and he sends his team of suicide bombers into the game.
