Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
Well, you do actually need to plan out your point allotments based on what jobs you want to play and this includes crafting.
ファイナルファンタジーXIV
The Effect of Player Status on Crafting & Gathering
A player’s physical and elemental statuses greatly affect crafting and gathering. There are many hints within the game that reveal which statuses affect which aspects.
[ Crafting ]
Attributes: Works in conjunction with the type of tool used to affect synthesis quality
Elemental: Affects the occurrence rate of “god sends,†as well as synthesis stability
[ Gathering ]
Physical: Affects the number of items harvested, as well as the drop rate
Elemental: Affects the type of crystals that can be obtained during gathering
As far as Combat roles go:
Gladiator: Trickiest to balance as you need DEX STR VIT and MND, in that order I would say.
General DDs: STR & DEX will be your primary focus, but you'll want some VIT & MND for defense (not much though)
Conjurer/Thaum: INT & PIE are your big stats here, again balancing VIT & MND as needed.

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
I think you can reasin them when you want to, so don't worry about messing up with your point allotment.

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
Thank you Mal and Tak alot more useful than Dak, if you can resign them like you think Tak that'll be much better as my worry was if i play Muarderer now and later one decide i wanted to play Conjurer that i would be screwed since my stats would be melee based"Death shall seek you out, If death fails, I promise you, i wont." ~ Srxjo (me)

It would b just plain stupid for SE to not allow you to redo them. I think you can every 15 mins or so, so that you can't keep changing classes and such every 2 seconds.

You can only reassign the last level's worth of point and after a lengthy cooldown.
For example, if you need to reassign 40 points, you'll need to reassign at least (at level 15) 5 times. This means, reassign the last level, wait for cooldown, reassign the level before that, wait for cooldown, etc.
So, no, it's not the best way to undo your mistakes. Make sure you know what you're doing before just dumping it just "anywhere I feel like".

Didn't think I"d find myself saying so, but I like XI better for having pre-determined stats. For people who don't multi-class a lot, or stick to one type (all physical, all magical, just tanking etc) it's a Godsend though.

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
Let's not forget the traits that you can use to juggle stats around, someone care to explain that as I havent played yet, but have heard of the concept?
I can see myself switching to mage after having alotted stats into melee stuff, using the traits to juggle around and every 15 minutes reassigning to keep improving the stat i want at that moment.
The re-allocation is also nice incase you're missing a lot when fighting a certain mob.. just add AGI (acc modifier?), or if you're taking too much damage, sacrifice something to up VIT a little bit...
Its a boon, from that perspective, but if you plan on juggling discilpines a lot i guess it can become frustrating.. specially when SE themselves are trying to make us play multiple classes (one of their motives for surplus).
(its late, im not even going to proofread what i said but im sure i killed the english language around the midsection)signatures are for pussies mew mew mew, here's mine

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
They should let us do what we can in GW, and just reassine all stats as long as you are in town... Would be a lot better, and I hope they change it. I would love to play a mage, and melee at times, but I don't want to wait a long ass time between classes...

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
There are several things going on with the current system which everyone should know.
1. There is ceiling on diminishing returns for attributes that does scale but I'm not sure how exactly it scales.
Example: At level 12 (or was it 13?) I hit the DR on both Strength and Dexterity. What this means is that I had to spend 2 bonus points in order to gain 1 stat point. Whereas, up until this point, I could spend 1 bonus point and get a full stat point. At level 13 and 14, this ceiling did not change at all and I found myself dumping my points into Vitality in order to not "lose" the value or worth of the bonus points in relation to the gains from deprecating it on DR'd stats. More testing is needed for this.
2. It is very possible to allocate your attributes evenly across all stats and hope that the stat improvements from gear will be enough to overcome any differences from players who stat stack (even through the DR) Since SE improved the situation by giving a bit more weight and value to stats that wouldn't see the time of day in FFXI for particular roles, this may be the best way to go for players who like to constantly switch between the various roles (including crafting)
3. Bonus points for stat allocation should be spent and you should refrain from pooling too much. After a certain point, the scales in difficulty against the player with regards to monster stats and their relationship with that player will start to curve away from the linear model that you experience in the first 15 levels. This curve will continue to only get steeper with higher levels (30, 40, 50) This means that, unless gears match in bonus through inflation, the allocation of points will eventually force players to decide on a particular role at least until SE decides to enhance the ability to reallocate points in a more productive and meaningful manner.

Re: Physical Level and Point Allotment
The way those things works I believe, from what I read on YG and Archives is they are active abilities that temporarily raise one stat while lowering another. Which is pretty nice actually, though giving up a slot for that sucks.
I started pumping INT and PIE a little bit today as I hit rank 10 since I plan to level conjurer soon for Cure, and Pugilist for their HP move (forget the name) and I would like to try my hand at magic at some point regardless. However it's good to know I can keep focusing on STR & DEX (gonna push them until they require 2 points per increase) and not be screwed for mage classes.
As far as elemental resistances go, I'm just making it neutral across the board so I don't get creamed too horribly by any particular element, and to balance my crafting out.
