Horrible LAG on CE release! What will happen on SE?
No it was SE's fault. They didn't specific give us what ambient Occlusion is about.
It seem Ambient Occlusion cause lag on its own.
No, your system isn't powerful enough.
1. AMD CPU - not powerful enough
2. 5870 - not powerful enough
OKAY ...
Here is a good example. It's like you had a Radeon 9800 PRO and turned on 8x FSAA and then blamed SE and saying your card is powerful enough to do this that blah blah blah. Back then that card could not do 8x FSAA for the games that were coming out. It was a powerful card, no doubt, but it just couldn't.
In 5 years, any mid-level card will be able to run ambient occlusion without a significant performance hit. However, this is the year 2010, and NO mid level or high-mid-level card will be able to do that.
I know what ambient occlusion is, but what's depth of field?
How far you can see on your screen. It loads up distant terrain and objects at the far peripheral edge. It gives a greater sense of realism and depth but at significant system performance hit. It also includes the sky.

Nvidia + CUDA + PhysX ... takes some of the pressure off the GPU and allows it to do extra stuff like occlusion.
Sweet, although we're also doing a lot of AO stuff with the PS3, and I don't think that has a very powerful GPU or CPU.
There is a very big warning in the manual that turning on Depth of Field and Occlusion will impact your performance.
RTFM...
This isn't performance issue.
This is call internet speed lag!.
First of all, i don't understand why everyone keep giving me this "performance" lag thing, like i said i ran the game absolutely without even a pulse of stopping. It isn't like i click "w" and my character isn't moving.
The thing is i can run all i want, but there is a delay on spell being cast and stuff, you know it is internet lag when you can run in circle and the spell still isn't being cast when the monster stop there waiting for you. I don't know what a super machine with Ambient occlusion running is like. I would love to see screenshot of the differences.
However, i don't know why you can run around and die normally without slightly of lag adjustment. The manuel said performance didn't say you might experience speed lags. While the servers are new, i can also put my blame on the server that was lagging.
And Aeni is a AMD hater Why don't you state that No 480 can't use it too nor 470 nor I7 950 too.

PS3 development tool kit encourages developers to use PhysX. This is where Nvidia will have the upper hand here, especially since it's an Nvidia GPU powering the PS3.
I owned an AMD before but felt let down when they got cocky and squandered missed opportunities. I didn't like them buying out ATI either as ATI was better able to take risks and the payout was big when they did. With AMD, they answer to shareholders, not to the gamers.
^^ it'll be so nice in a year or so's time when I build my next PC and the parts I need to blow XIV out of the water will be cheap
Make that 2-3 years.
Let's see.
AMD announced the next video card won't be overwhelming at all, 5970 will still top these cards.
Intel Sandy bridge will only replay the 930 line by power.
These will be release sometime like feb 2010 (since no one works to do all the stuff during christmas )
Now assume these line going to stay in for 1 year.
Since even 5970 can't blow AO out of the water.
You might get something a tiny bit better @ 2012 summer then 5970 or Ares
Even with Asus ares (the best graphic card in the world) A CFX 5870 without the losing performance of both card.
run this @ 50 fps without AO. I don't know about 480 SLI x4 setup, since i never actually saw anyone play this game with it.

Re: Horrible LAG on CE release! What will happen on SE?
I fired it up today with my friends account and even on my weaksause 360M I was able to run with little not no lag. There were a few frame hiccups, but other than that, it was smooth sailing.
I think the OP doesn't know the difference between computer slowdown and connection latency. ROFL.
Burning questions are burning: Is jenova_9 really a girl and is she cute? Does she talk like that in real life?
