  • Trying to understand my benchmark score..

My score is in roughly 1550(high) depending on what settings I play around with on.

    My specs are..

    ASUS G51JX-A1 15.6" Notebook. ASUS G51JX-A1
    Intel Core i7 720QM / 1.6 GHz
    6GB RAM
    500 GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M w/ 1 GB dedicated
    Windows 7

I'm not exactly sure why my score is so low. I wouldn't have thought it was my RAM or GFX card. Is the game going to run poorly on my laptop or is the FFXIV benchmark not accurate?

    Based off the reccomended specs

    •OS: Windows® 7 32-bit/64-bit*
    •CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 2.66GHz or higher
    •RAM: 4GB or more
•HDD/SDD: Installation: 15GB of free space; Download: 6GB of free space on the drive containing "My Documents"
•Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460 or better with VRAM 768MB or more

My processor is lagging behind but that's about all I see... Not enough to warrant such a low score surely?

    It is.

I don't know about the official client, but the Benchmark only seems to use 2 processors in a very weird way. Unless that second was being used by my antivirus or something that is.

I got 1667 on High and 2000 on Low, with 1 Processor working at around 60% capacity and the 2nd was at 40%. The other 2 got bored and probably took a nap or started playing cards between themselves while the test was running. Also worth noting is that it's most definitely not optimized for multiple GPUs as evidenced by how only 1 video card was really working while the other was pretty much iddle.

So yeah, probably dual overclocked cores would be better for this.

Best part is how I have yet to find a game I can't run with averything on max or close to it, but the benchmark would get a lot of frame tearing and just bad performance all around.

Please note that the score does not guarantee that your system will run FINAL FANTASY XIV. Please use it for reference only.

[8000 and over] Extremely High Performance
Easily capable of running the game on the highest settings.

      [5500–7999] Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.

      [4500-5499] High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.

      [3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.

      [2500-2999] Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.

      [2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.

      [1500-1999] Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.

      [Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

Since you fall under Low Performance, I would not recommend playing FFXIV on your laptop. In fact, the only laptops that will run FFXIV well (and that means minimal lag and good graphic quality) will be dedicated gaming laptops.

umm it said 2.6 GHZ ...vs your 1.6 ghz?

and nvidia GT 330m? The numbers can fool you.

The NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 360M GPU delivers premium power and enhanced performance for the demanding mobile gamer and multimedia enthusiast.

        vs

        GeForce GTX 460

        check specification.

        anyway to compare
96 cuba cores vs 336 cuba cores (GTX460)
Your card run 128 bits GTX 460 run 256 bits.

Your card can't even run directX11 which we don't care in this case.

You think a GT 330M is good just because the number is highest in laptop ?

Probably worse then a 9800 GTx by miles away, GeForce 9800 GTX (128 steam processor)

Laptops, unfortunately, suck at gaming. Unless you get a replacement desktop with PCIe cards ... at that point just get a desktop since your batteries won't even last 30 min with that kind of power hog.

I remember Etra was having issues with a laptop overheating and I think laptops are prone to overheating when stressed beyond their capabilities. Most laptops are built with DVD movies as being the most intense activity that it's rated for.

Anyway, the general rule is that a processor on a laptop is usually about 15-20% worse than the same processor on a desktop and I think GPUs suffer a 20-50% penalty as well (depending on what kind of chip it is). It's because you do not have the power needed to max out the capabilities of the processors and GPUs and you'd probably just blow out the puny power supply on the laptop trying to push it too hard.

I fixed it with the AS5 stuff. :]

Also, I use this as a GPU. You might want to look into it: Vidock 4
Granted, I only have vidock2, but 4 allows you to use much more powerful GPUs. Only thing I warn you about is that you'll need a really good understanding of software and your OS to use it. Some people get an error with it and they have to program a special boot option to get it working (there's a guide for how to do it, but it's not something a beginner could do.) Getting it working makes the payoff great, though. My laptop only has a PCI-E 1 x1 slot, but the vidock still runs the GPU amazingly.

Re: Trying to understand my benchmark score..

Well my computer spec is about 3 years old now but running the benchmark on the low res it did ok. Now to be honest with my monitor high res is wasted but the standard is still really clear.

My score (and this is with kasperksy labs, google chrome with 3 pages open and emule running in the background.)

Good news for me as I have the collectors edition on order to arrive on the 22nd

lookinga t the op he posted the score with (high) I gather that means he ran the highest resolution setting. I would advise him to try the lower setting and to be honest it wont spoil the gameplay.

My score on the highest was 2140

After some overclocking I obtained a score of 4800! I want to push it to 5000, but at this point I don't have the proper cooling for something like that.

It is really handy to have around. My laptop pretty much turned into a mini-desktop. I can still unhook the ViDock and take the laptop by itself with me anywhere.

Also, which artist? You linked to my sig, but it rotates. xD Do you mean Ayu or Shirley? 'Cause I me some Shirley Manson.

Out of curiosity, anyone care to post the results of their Vana'diel bench scores alongside their FFXIV scores? I have to imagine these computers can max out that bench by now.

Shirley Manson I absolutely love Garbage and especially since Butch Vig was an integral part of the band. He was (in my opinion) the reason Smashing Pumpkins saw great success in their release, Siamese Dream, which ironically (again, in my opinion) was their best album released.

I'll post mine later tonight, just wanted to make a note about running XI using Radeon cards.

After a lot of testing I had to downgrade to Catalyst 9.1 to run it properly. Anything above (with the possible exception of the 10.3 driver) turns the game into a lag-fest.

And I'm talking 8-10 fps in Whitegate and stuttering beyond anything playable for no apparent reason.

Not much hope ATI will fix it anytime soon, of course.
