  • Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

Anyone have a super machine and tell me if they can ?

I don't think FFXI would use too much resources on today's PC. I have absolutely no lag (beside the stupid mouse lag that is slow to response) on FFXIV, but when i use it on playonline viewer (or the W.......) FFXI will show a lot of lags.

Anyone want to try it and give me your pc spec so i can see what i can upgrade to do so? I think it is the ram..4gb is not enough.

maybe i should just use my xbox 360 to do it..

OH the reason i am asking this is because 32bit OS only limit to 4g ram, and program 32bit running in 64bit OS seem to only use 4g to its limit. I assume FFXIV is a 64bit program so it can use beyond that 4gb.. But FFXI isn't so it will only use that 4g ram. Can you try open them in different order?

So basically what i want to know is Any i7 user with 6gb ram tried it? I assume FFXI take say 1gb of the ram and FFXIV takes the 2 while system take 2. Maybe I7 user will run it smoother while i can't since FFXIV taking all the inital ram and reducing the amount of ram available for FFXI (which cause the lag i assume).

I am running 1055t OC 3.710 4gb dominator corsair 5850 GPU. GPU doesn't seem overload while most of my cores only @ 20-50% so i assume it is the ram.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

FFXIV will require to much interaction, I really don't think you can do both at once

but to answer your question, FFXIV first off is not a 64bit program, its still 32bit. if you want to multi task like that your going to need Win 7 64bit, and 8GB of RAM, a good I7 proccessor would not hurt.

Now if you want to get a little more complicated you could run FFXI on one monitor and FFXIV on another, and have two video cards (of moderate strength) one for each screen.

The main problem is FFXI is CPU intensive, and FFXIV is just intensive ;p So to run both at the same time at playable levels, you will need a high end (not ultra high end) gaming rig.

I have this saved on my thing, I want to build a new PC, but can't a the current moment. (just posting the core stuff)

FFXIV probably still needs further patching to resolve software conflicts and crashing.

FFXI isn't that CPU intensive as my cores are only sitting in 20-50% with both FFXIV and FFXI running on separate monitor. Like i said, FFXIV is running on perfectly as it was alone @ 1920x1080 windowed. But FFXI run really slow @ 1920x1080 but the graphic seem returned to 1024x1024 from 2048x2048

I think it is the ram that is limiting the potential of running both under the same system. I didn't know FFXIV is a 32bit (i guess that is why it is still on my (x86) folder).

Does that mean FFXIV won't go over the initial 4gb limit? I assume all programs that are 32 bit only use the initial 4gb ram not sure if that is true or not. i really hope someone with i7 run a test for me.

I am already running an decent mid level gaming rig, i will have to wait until christmas when they announce new AMD gpu for 2nd and 3rd Xfire setup.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

FFXIV will use ALL FOUR CORES on Quads and will not even recognize the other 2 cores in Hexas. When running FFXIV, you're not even going to get a drop of resource for FFXI. It might be possible to force FFXI to run on the 5th or 6th core in Hexa systems and run FFXIV just fine. The GPU isn't the issue here since FFXI is pretty much 90% CPU and while it's not as intensive as you say, FFXIV is a beast and will want to use as much as it can.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

I don't know about you, but according coretemp, speedfan, and resource monitor/task bar, all my graphs and number show me i have only using 20-50% of my 6 CPU. I am not even lagging without FFXI.

right now i am just lagging ON ffxi as if my machine is running on ps2. Just for FFXI.
I am absolutely very smooth in FFXIV not even a moment of hiccup.

I can even watch a movie run photoshop, downloading torrent using share while i play ffxiv, just not ffxi.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

Yeah, FFXIV uses all 6 cores on my 1055T, but never at full load. Despite what everyone says about the CPU being the bottleneck on low res, my GTX 460 is definitely maxing out.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

5850 is better if you choose high res. zero hiccup, no slowdown. 100% max out setting and still running 20-50% CPU.

My score was 3922 @ high res and i am one happy taru.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

Are you both running Phenoms? The other possibility here is that multithreading doesn't work quite as smoothly on AMD processors as it does with Intel processors. Because I can run both fine without issues and I have less power on my processor compared to you. I can run both WoW and FFXI together just fine as well.

Re: Playing FFXI and FFXIV together.

AMD is weaker when compare to intel on gaming. I can run 4 copies of FFXI just fine.

But for some reason FFXIV won't let me run FFXI smooth. The CPU isn't even @ 50% when both are running. I will perform further testing.

I suspect it is because i am running FFXI on 1920x1080 as well.

I don't think that's an available resolution option. You're merely stretching the background "image" to a higher resolution with Windower but there's no noticeable difference in the quality. You should play FFXI on a smaller resolution ... nothing about that game screams "eye candy" at this point in time.

yeah playing FFXI at 1280x720 is perfectly fine, and the background rez being any higher then 1920x1080 is silly

I know, i put it smaller but it doesn't seem have any effects, i will try smaller resolution. later.

The saddest part is i am lagging even when i type in FFXI when FFXIV is up, but i am amazing at when FFXIV doesn't even lag one bit.

yeah FFXI is very VERY picky...it does not like playing with anything else really.....unless you use... you know that thing...... that does stuff....in a window...... as much as I dont want to admit it, that thing really improves the PC version, and it has nothing to do with anything it "adds"

Well i am using that thing...that does stuff...in a winder adding the 'er. But It still didn't improve the quality, it is better then normal windowed mode. I can't find the solution to this. I really hate the 360 ver. (no mouse).
