Because you aren't buying the actual game from them making them loose 60$

He is talking about people not buying the actual box, unless they charged the same for the download as they do for the disc version of the game.

Then again you may not need to install it again, but would probably need the key that comes with the disc anyway.

I did not even think about it when I posted last, I bet the character templates are saved with your character data on the servers, so installing the retail game from the disk would not wipe that info...... not sure what the hell I was thinking.

Yea, only your name is saved to the server how ever. Not the full character such as level, race, and what ever else you could think of.

....no I was talking about the character templates not the characters themselves, the templates are saved on the server with your other account information.

So if you saved a template in beta, and you log in on the 22nd with the retail version, you can choose that template and go right to the naming screen then server selection.

Ah ok. I would much rather go back into character creation though and make a whole new character since they are releasing even more customization.

How would they lose $60 if I kept the open beta client and used it for retail? I would still need to pay the $60 to get a key to allow access to the game.

                  Just saying.

As for the character creation data, maybe it is server side? I guess we'll find out. xD

You weren't saying that you needed to buy the CD key as well. That is what I was getting at.

It's not that, it depends on the character creation system, but it's like when you finally manage to make a character you really like but you aren't sure how you got it. If you are unable to save that appearence and all you can do is remember where the sliders were there's a chance you'll never manage to get the same looks again.

                        And that sucks, big time.

Re: Regarding the End of the Open Beta Test

At PAX they had people create characters and then put the characters onto (branded) thumb drives and told us how to use the created character for the game. So you can save your characters basic stats on a thumb drive and then use that character, although I'm sure any levels will not transfer, just what they look like and possibly what city they started in. Hopefully not the world as it was a generic server that was not linked to the Open Beta. lol

And I'm getting at I was asking if I could use the client for launch. I never asked about using the CD key, as it was a given that it would be needed to play. You said they would lose money if I used the client, not if I didn't buy a CD key.

                            Thanks.

Beta client will not work at launch. You will be required to either purchase the discs or perhaps a digital download of the official release.

I tihink the beta client won't work because you only installed about 1/2 the game. It was intentional I think. The full game will have the rest of the quest lines, cutscenes, scripted dialog and additional maps (zones) and anything else you could think of. Remember, the client is only about 4gb (sans the patch) while the retail might be around 6-7gb. Also, the beta has a lot of placeholders, incomplete sections of cities and blocked sections of zones which will be unlocked in retail. I also think the launcher will be different and the configuration menu may have additional options. We all hear that the character creation screen will have additional features as well.

I'm also curious as to why FFXIV isn't integrated with POL and it may be in the retail version (might be packaged with a new POL client)
