Official Unofficial Bugs, Thoughts, and Suggestions
Why did they go and change the elemental properties? I mean come on, doesn't it make more sense that water extinguishes fire? -.- That's just confusing, dammit, after so many years of playing XI and learning them one way, they went and changed them? That's so stupid ...
Not just XI, but virtually every other fucking RPG ever. Except FFX, where Ice & Fire were opposed as were water and lightning - the latter making no god damned sense whatsoever. At least when Ice melts it creates some water and/or steam. But how exactly does water beat lightning?
EDIT: Going to re-distribute all my elemental points when I get on into fire and see if that affects Red Lotus. I'm also starting to wonder if my INT affects it at all or if it's straight up physical damage (Just elemental like Tachi: Kagero)
Re: Official Unofficial Bugs, Thoughts, and Suggestions
ok, so i picked up a local leve for carpentry, and i have to go to some camp other than bearded rock, but the leve doesn't have a "map" button to find the camp. anyway, this is not a major gripe, just an inconvenience. also, the leve recommends carpentry rank 5. does that mean i should use botanist to get some logs, then raise carpentry through planks? or, is there another type of leve that would be good for lvl'ing carpentry?
edit: wait, i think i know the answer. i've already done eight regional guildleves, so i have to wait 48 hours before i can do more (e.g. job-specific guildleves), right?
Re: Official Unofficial Bugs, Thoughts, and Suggestions
Finally got in today and then I regretted it. The interface makes me want to strangle kittens and the fact that they buggered up both camera control axes and then tied it to other functionality is unforgivable. The battle system was unintuitive during the tutorial session and the interface prevented me from reading most of the tutorial.
In FFXI it took me 3 minutes to figure out how to walk, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that in FFXIV it took me 3 minutes to figure out how to successfully engage and attack an enemy.
I'm about to write this whole thing off as an utter design failure and settle back into FFXI for the long haul.

Very sad panda. The filler NPCs don't even get to have names, they're just labeled "drunken traveler" or some such. Way to fail at world building guys.

wanted to take screenshots, but ffxiv requires you to hold scroll lock while hitting print screen (i think). unfortunately, my mx5500 keyboard does not have a scroll lock key. wasn't able to find a solution while i had the game running (fullscreen mode), but just googled it at work, and it turns out that the mx5500 has a couple of alternatives, e.g. fn+pause/break or right/left on the mouse wheel. i'll try it again when i get another chance to log in.
Anyone else having thier send/recieve fluctuate a LOT and general loading of characters and actions severely lagging?
Animations are great, smooth, not laggy at all, just seems like the loading of characters, (not necessarily PCs, but characters all together like mobs/npcs/etc..), is real bad. MOST of the time there's accute latency when engaging mobs, too.
Doesn't seem to matter what time of day I play, but it's very slightly worse in prime hours, which is understandable.
About 20-45 seconds to load NPCs in deserted areas, and S never breaks 45-55. The little icon is next to the S/R info has been yellow continuously and occasionally red and R-0 (wich being a FFXI vet, isn't really surprising or an issue to me considering this IS beta).
Is this the norm for the game right now? Is this a known issue? Or is this somethign restricted to certain servers?
