          A suggestion: Make the dodo's belching noise much, much louder. I nearly died laughing when I was getting my ass kicked by a belching dodo who kept putting me to sleep.

            initial thoughts after about 2 hours last night in the beta:

            these bugs have probably been reported ad nauseam, but my two biggest annoyances right now are:

            1) not always being able to tab to an NPC/Mob/etc. with the "0" key on my numpad, but being able to mouse click him/her/it

            2) starting a battle, then suddenly being unable to perform attacks on the mob (even though the mob can still hit me!!!)

            i was able to two-man for a little while last night, which was very fun, but my conjurer had a gripe as well:

            3) not being able to select the tank (me = lancer) to heal, leading to multiple wipes against mobs we felt like we could take


            other than that, wow, i'm having a lot of fun in this game. i wish more players would make party requests for doing leves (eight is NOT enough). i also feel like the limsa map could be more helpful. still, it forced me to explore a bit before i found my weapons for other jobs, giving me a chance to take in the views and not just rush directly to the vendor with blinders on.

            i had seen a youtube of a guy complaining about fishing. i felt like it was relatively easy, except that i haven't quite figured out what to do when you are close to getting a catch (e.g. "the fish takes some line", "you take some line"). the other thing that sucked was having my internet provider decide to deactivate my line right as i was about to finish the fishing leve this morning (i've got to be less lazy about paying bills (we can do it at 7-11 here, and there's about 3 times as many 7-11's as there are starbucks)).

            i like being able to assign my stats the way i want to. i have no idea how to assign my elemental stats (so i'm sitting on ~30 points).

            i dislike getting a screen-tear-type bar in the middle of my screen sometimes (reminds me of the last remnant).

            overall, i think i'll be keeping my pre-order. i haven't been in enough mmo's to be picky about how complete or functional they are for the first half year or so. this game feels friendly to my style of play so far, and many of the jobs are intriguing, so i'm quite looking forward to the full release.

              they should be on the same window as your other stats, just click on them with the mouse like you do with your main stats, or if you use a controller hit your "right D-pad" to get to the elemental section.

                i think he means, what purpose do they hold, do they count as resistances, or do they provide more elemental oomph when casting.

                    Yeah I doubt he meant that literally...

                    I too, am perplexed as to how to allocate them, so I've just been spreading them out evenly.

                      For example putting points in "fire" will make your fire based spells hit harder/be more effective, and make your fire resistance higher, but it will also make you weaker to say, wind. (is that what fire is weak to in FFXIV? I forgot -.-)


                      Think of them as the elemental bonuses from equipment in FFXI, its pretty much the same thing.

                        Water, Earth, Fire, Lightning, Ice and Wind.

                        Not sure if elementals have multiple weaknesses against each other or just a 1:1 relationship. However, if you look at how it's arranged, there seems to be a 3 way symbiosis and a pair of that.

                        Clockwise: Lightning, Fire, Earth, Ice, Water, Wind
                        Symbiosis 1: Lightning, Earth, Water (Lightning < Earth < Water < Lightning)
                        Symbiosis 2: Fire, Ice, Wind (Fire > Ice > Wind > Fire)

                        These may be clues to other things which includes synthesis (combination of the various elemental crystals and shards used), magical combination (higher level abilities and spells may combine different elementals) and other things not yet in the game.

                          Wind extinguishes fire, but is obstructed by ice.
                          Earth grounds lightning, but is eroded by water.
                          Lightning boils water, but is grounded by earth.

                          Attuning yourself to a certain element increases both your attack power with, and defense against, spells of the same aspect.

                              Why did they go and change the elemental properties? I mean come on, doesn't it make more sense that water extinguishes fire? -.- That's just confusing, dammit, after so many years of playing XI and learning them one way, they went and changed them? That's so stupid ...

                                Slightly confusing this new implementation its like we don't have an elemental wheel anymore more a pair of elemental stabilisers.
