Official Unofficial Bugs, Thoughts, and Suggestions
Might be bugged then, I had the npc fix everything that was repairable, but it didn't go away.
EDIT: Just logged back in again and it dropped back to yellow. When I logged off earlier it was red. My weapon was at 89% so I'm thinking it probablyy wasn't that.

Don't be ridiculous. Having full zone maps in FFXI never stopped anyone from exploring. No in-game map is going to tell me "The view at this beach in Buburimu is gorgeous at night" or "You should really check out this part of Lufaise." FFXI's maps left out a lot of hidden tunnels or areas as well.
Players that wanted to explore and travel in FFXI were an immensely rare breed of player and they only got more rare when SE made the mistake of creating hub areas and warps to go with them. And even back in the CoP and RoZ days once the well-worn path was established - even if there were a few alternative EXP camps - hardly anyone ever deviated from what was known.
If we were to compare FFXI to other MMOs in terms of players and the desire to explore, FFXI's community would be a laughing stock.
Really, though, the best way to do it is to compromise. You start with no map and the system auto-maps areas for you. Oldie but a goodie. This way to complete your map, you have to explore, but from that point forward you have a permanent map.
That's much better than FFXI's willy-nilly approach. You get some starter maps, some maps you have to buy, others you have to quest, some are found in treasure chests. All that's a bit too tedious.

Which other MMOs? Comparing a WoW player's level of exploration to an FFXI player's would be idiotic for numerous reasons, mainly the lack of meaningful death penalty and the ability to freely navigate around the zones without invisible walls hampering your progress. Now, if you compared FFXI players with EQ players you're far more likely to see a correlation. So please, get off your high horse and stop taking snide shots at FFXI players.
2 days now I've been stuck at 94% on this update. I have 60+ connections, but 0 upload/download.... what the fuck SE?
http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/12719...-instructions/ wash, rinse, and repeat. You could've been playing the same day you got your reg key. I hope SE fixes their stupid downloader before the retail version comes out >_>.
Edit: Right after I typed this, I went to login and today's download 2010.09.05.2000 froze at 94.6% after downloading most of it within a minute. SE GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!

Happened to me twice yesterday. Mine randomly crashed earlier today, but was fine after that.

Suuuuure, did you ever play EQ?
FFXI's death penalty is and always was a slap on the wrist compared to the likes MMOs that preceded it and that didn't stop people in Everquest from exploring. You could be millions in EXP debt and still be willing to hoof it to an alternate camp if one was taken by another party. For that to happen in FFXI today would be a very, very rare moment of dignity and consideration toward others.
Re: Official Unofficial Bugs, Thoughts, and Suggestions
I would kind of like to find some new weapons and armor. There's no players selling anything in the way of either of those, all I've been able to find are 50,000 copies of the same copper ring. Crafting doesn't really interest me because I don't feel like looking for crystals and trying to figure out how to make hats.
