Also there are many abilities and spells which can only be obtained by Guild Marks which heavily favors that of the particular class as you get a leg up (obviously) Also, Disciples of Hand/Land are not able to access the stuff that Disciples of War/Magic use and vice versa. You're not able to repair armor unless you're a Hand Armorer as opposed to a War Armorer. There are many hidden restrictions employed throughout the game so ultimately, yes, it is still exceedingly important for you to think about what kind of character you want to roll.
Hmm, I don't know about that last statement. I rolled a lancer (DoW), but I am definitely able to repair my own armor. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying?

I'm a Marauder and an armorer and is unable to repair my own armor. I always get the error message, "You are not of the class/discipline". Even with the right equipment on both hands I still am not able to. Even with the materials in my inventory. I'm not talking about having an NPC repair for you or someone else repair for you.

if I am not mistaken, armorer only repairs "metal" armor, for leather you need Leather worker, and for robes and stuff you need Weaver.

I wish someone sold something better than the newbie polearms. Using this weathered spear is getting a little dull. xD

              This explains a lot. Thanks!

Why did they bother to have the differences then? It's flavor. They wanted to show the distinction between the races and by interjecting their own comments for those RP players (i.e., those who need to draw up a frame of reference for their characters when they engage in RP with each other) This is an RPG people and stats for races have always been just as different as the abilities of classes.

I'm sorry I didn't give more info in my reply. Yes, you need to look at what material is required to repair, then match the tool to the material. The one problem I had was that you have to UNEQUIP your armor before you can repair it yourself. Otherwise, the repair box will always be grayed out.

The only reason I know this is because I was desperately trying to think of ways to up my carpentry skill. Turns out I did more tailoring than carpentry. Weapons have great durability. The nice thing is, most of the repair mats are extremely cheap for the entry level equipment, the repairs never fail, and they always put your equipment back at 100%.

The only problem I'm having now is I can't unequip my undershirt to repair it! Does anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah, you don't have access to all spells and abilities from every job, some abilities are more specific. Each job has their own starting ability, Heavy Thrust, Spirit Dart, etc, but I haven't seen any spells that that applies to yet. Conjurers get tranquility which needs DoM job to use but more are available to DoW and DoM. So unless you want to be a nuking fisherman or something you can get most of the abilities you might want. Classes need something to distinguish then from others otherwise everyone would end up with the same skills and we'd have mages going around with Asuran Fists.

                    Edit:
Looking at Eorzeapedia, big nukes like Flare and Tornado are DoM only, as is Raise, so there are some spells DoW can't get later.

Okay, this is why I'm having problems. I need to unequip it first to repair it (doh) Thanks guys! Oh and reason you can't remove the undergarment is because your model is ... naked underneath. But then you can't repair it so I wonder if you could switch with a brand new item, would that work?

                        Exactly what I was thinking.

My only workaround was to have the NPC repair the undershirt only (maybe underwear too?). You only get to 75% that way, but it's not a big deal. Otherwise, I kept having that stupid "heavy damage" status icon at the top of my screen (annoying!).

There's another thing I learned last night. The NPC repair menu has a Next button (duh!), which allows you to select each equipment slot individually for repairs. That way, I was able to just repair those items that were not unequippable, and not accidentally have him repair something I could do myself.

yes that will work, pretty much have to replace the undergarments, then repair the ones you take off.

My Lalafell can be as naked as he wants to be! What right does the law say he can't remove his undergarments right there in front of the shop-keep and stand naked until they're fixed?

                            You Miqo are all racist!

And that there pretty much solves everything.

Leve's in LL confirmed that they offer shield rewards, this particular one was for Rank 20 and I was 16 Thaumy when it offered it to me.

EDIT:: I have now seen this item drop from Gridania, a Silver Rank 20 Leve, Leader Of The Pack, 13.3K Gil reward + Bronze Scutum.
