eh I will agree the stats are a bit "wonky" but since we add points any way we want, I don't see why it even matters.
If I want a melee oriented character, I don't want half my points tied up into magical stats I'll never use.
They also changed prices at the shops. Jesus Christ is shit ever a lot more expensive now especially crafting ingredients god damn. Distilled water was like 12 gil in the beta, now it's 117. All the basic starting weapons went from 49~68 gil to 600+! It's ridiculous!
They've greatly increased guild leve rewards as well (at least in terms of gil) but even so what the crap. Well, at least Ul'dah and Gridania are both quite pretty, if annoying to navigate. I don't much care for the music they chose for both cities though. They're both nice pieces, but I was hoping for something a little more grand for City themes.
Limsa Lominsa is the only town with a really lively theme that grabs you. I also have to really question the way they spread out the guilds too.... why is it the desert city with plenty of rocky mountains has the mining guild, but then only goldsmithing while Blacksmithing and Armory are in Limsa, a freaking port town?!
And then Botany is in Gridania, which makes total sense but Alchemy is in Ul'dah? Um... what? Yes let's not have the guild that mostly utilizes herbal ingredients in the bloody forest city. orz

how are the points "tied up" in magic when you never put points in it to begin with?
I think the price stuff is ok, in a way, since they not only increased shop prices, but reward prices, so you still have the same ratio. but some prices are crazy.

maybe the guilds are setup where they are needed the most, instead of where they would be related to resources..... *shrugs* I don't know ;p

Kain (FFIV): I am aware of my actions, but can do nothing about them.

It was pretty clear this was going to happen, IIRC the prices were artifically dropped in beta phase 3 along with the re-introduction of Local Leve's, suggesting that S.E. wanted us to try crafting more so I can't say I am surprised the prices have gone back up, it was never supposed to be that low anyway.

Uh, do I really have to spell it out for you? Really?
Everyone has roughly the same point total spread out across each category. Even if you try to reassign your stats right as you begin the game, you can not alter the beginning stats. So if my chosen character has too many points into INT or w/e, well that's tough shit and I don't care for that.
As TGM said, you choose your point allotment this time around, so why even bother with racial differences? I have to go with a Sun Kitty, despite preferring moon kitties to keep my melee stats more in line with what I want to do. Primary stats have a much bigger impact on performance in XIV than they did in XI.

There are stalls where you can purchase job and crafting items in Gridania. They have Blacksmith, Armorsmith, Alchemy, and a few other stuff there.
I'm aware of this, but it's nice having the guild facilities nearby. It won't matter in the long run given you can just teleport directly between towns, but it's annoying in the short term.
Also, combat guilds suck ass. I figured since I was starting off as a Gladiator kitty in Ul'dah I'd hit up the guild for some low level gear.... NOPE! Guild Marks ONRY, no gear sold whatsoever. So once again, I'm forced into crafting if I want a shield. That's real great there SE, can't even let the tanking class start off with a vital tool.

If you switch to Gladiator and take your level 1 Guild Leve's one of the equipment rewards will be a shield, this is how I got mine after I switched to Gladiator from conjurer. The Leves seem to give you rewards you can use and need for your jobs.
6 points in magic stats more that a highlander as a dusk elf is not half your points. It's not even a tenth of your points. By then time you're level 50 it'll be less than 2% difference in your stats vs someone else who decided to make a completely one-sided character. Woo-freakin-hoo. That's assuming that difference in stats actually translates into real advantage. For all we know SE has put inflection points into the formulas so that the diminishing returns on those points amount to no difference whatsoever. We have no idea how those stats actually work. They're just raw, meaningless numbers.
Seriously, so many legitimately wrong things in the world to get pissed off about and this is what you choose?

Which Leve was this? If the levequests in Gridania reward anything, it's cloth gear.

Not quite sure what you mean by inflection points but I do know that (at least in Phase 3) once you go over 44 I believe, it starts taking 2 points per stat increase, and STR has a dramatic impact on your damage (not so much INT though with magic which is strange, but it could be that it impacts higher tier spells harder)
5/6 of the stats are actually useful though for pretty much all combat classes with the exception being PIE; Magic accuracy doesn't mean crap if I'm only casting curative magic. INT seems to affect the strength of cures but I can't confirm that yet.
This particular line of bitching is just early FFXI all over again. (Galka can't be mages! Taru can't be melee! Elves suck at everything! Mithra can't tank!) Have you learned nothing after years of FFXI?
