Shame that attitude spreads just as fast as rumors.

Sure, we can try to be optimistic - now try getting five thousand others to do the same.

              I agree with you.

But people will do this until the sun sets, cow comes home, etc. I guess for some people, min/maxing is fun ... but honestly, if you are trying to tell me that 3 dexterity difference is reason for a linkshell to not want you around at their next end game event, then something tells me there's a deeper problem than just that 3 dexterity. I've outdps'd players with a tier to tier and a half better gear than me in WoW ... it's all about skills and how you use them. Looking at the battle system, the timers involved in the various abilities, the TP gauge, your stamina meter ... there's more to it than just stats.

Stat stacking is for losers who don't know what to do beyond just pressing 1 and 3.

Well, in FFXI, I remember discussions about applications to the ls and, yes, people were denied because of race/job combinations. People would make fun of the app in the private section for their selections and soon after the shell holder would take the app down. It will happen again, I'm sure. I just hate it so because I'm a caretaker and I stand up for the underdog....and this usually gets my ass in trouble.

Oh and everybody is antisocial, people don't even answer tells or want linkshells, they're all about solo...

Other than that the game is nice, the lack of AH or search function at the wards is annoying, I waste time grinding to get gear to look awesome and do awesome things (hi joyeuse) but I can't do that here, because unless I want to scavange for gear in the ward I'll never find the good stuff.

And how is that casual to waste hours running through 500 mules to find stuff when the game is supposed to be casual and not take forever to do stuff?

SE relays on fan sites too much for the "item list" and that bugs me.

                    /rant off.

I'm still buying it, and I bet it'll be a good game once someone do something about the carrot.
I really enjoyed searching the bazaar's in LJ for high end items. I really enjoyed shopping them. I would find it relaxing to spend an hour and look at everyone's things they were selling and poke fun of how much they would price things.

But having to search for mundane materials thru that lagfest of exagerated price whoring is a cardinal sin against common sense. I'm a bit mortified SE will not include some sort of auctioneering tool. Unless they allow you to use a search function that will check everyone's mules for you and give you their location.......... did anyone ever play Phantasy Star Universe? That bazaar search function was clever.

I'm not seeing how Miqo'te are physically stronger than Elezen, I'm really not. Or how Highlander humes are beefier than Roegadyn seriously wtf.
XIV Elfs aren't the same as FFXI Elfs. XIV elfs are more like traditional elfs, high in dex and magics. Wood ones have Max dex, high int, high pie with the rest being fairly lower. Dark elfs have max int and the rest are pretty well balanced. It's clear Elfs in XIV are more magical in nature then they were in XI, where they were all dumb as rocks. Elfs in this game are pegged to do more magic damage (int) while having high melee accuracy (dex)

Taru again are pretty straight forward, with both being strong in magics, but Plains folk being better in dex, and balanced for the rest and Dunes folk having stronger magic stats overall. Both have high magic accuracy (pie), high magic defense (mnd) and Plains folk get strong melee accuracy (dex)

Sun mithra are clearly a melee oriented bunch, with fairly high melee stats all around, with better defense (vit) and melee damage (str) then wood elfs, but slightly lower accuracy while the moon cats have higher magics, specifically magic accuracy (pie) and defense (mnd) while still retaining the classic mithra dex.

Midland Humes are pretty much balanced, though they do have pretty low magic defense (mnd) while the Highlanders, people who live and work in rough mountainous terrain, have the best physical strength, high vit and decent accuracy and magic defense.

The Galka, who've never been physically strongest str wise, retain their place as "best Vit in show", and compliment that physical defense(vit) with a strong magical defense(mnd) as well. The Hellgalka, who are a more spiritual, mystic tribe of galka, maintain a strong physical defense, but gain superior magic defense while at the same time trading some physical combat stats for more magical base stats.

So when you actually take the time to look at it, the stats all do seem to make sense. Outside of humes, each race has a tribe good at melee and another good at magic and each race has at least one tribe that has a max starting stat. They're also fairly different from the stats each race had in XI, as the points ended up being rebalanced between each race and tribe.

However in the long run, these starting stats mean ABSOLUTELY JACK DICK seeing as you can not only increase any specific stat you want, but there's also the fact that at certain points, increasing a stat too high will increase the cost of increasing said stat. Also, no stat allotments are permanent seeing as you can redistribute them after a certain amount of time as people can and will change jobs constantly depending on the situation, some abilities actually give direct stat boosts naturally, and even at it's absolute worst the gap between the race with the highest stat in something and the race with the lowest stat in something will always come out to be exactly 6 points. Which by any sense of imagination will be insignificant at higher levels.

I can't really discern why Dune Lalafell would be weaker than Plains Lalafell, they're more inclined to harvesting just as much as I'd imagine Dunes Lalafell likely are to fishing.
Simple, Moon cats and Dune Tarus are more magically inclined then they are physically active. They trade their physical attributes to be more attuned to the mystical world around them. Both tribes in both races still have above average Dex, but one of each tribe has superior physical stats while the other is more magically adept.

It's actually pretty clear cut how these concepts were drawn up, Plains, Woods, Sun, 'Midlands', these are representative of comfortable places and lifestyles people settle into, filled with life and resources which any average person could easily live in. The terms invoke a sense of normalcy and averageness, one where people would work and live their lives pretty peacefully. But Dusk, Moon and Dune refer to concepts which are for the most part beyond normal comforts. Darkness, night, desolation, places where people must go beyond simple normalcy and often invoke supernatural, spiritual imagery. The Hellsgaurd as well invoke that supernatural feel, living and thriving near active volcanoes, far from the usual comforts of an average life. these tribes go against the "norms" and it's reflected in their magical and spiritual strengths.

These little differences play up the RP aspects of the game, feed into the uniqueness and flavor of the world and it's inhabitants. While the differences are minor at best, they are there, and they're used to show the different types of lifestyles and histories of each race and each tribe, to bring more culture and diversity to the gameworld as a whole.

That never made sense to me anyway that Elvaan were stronger than Galka. You look at how beefy Galka are and tell me Elves are stronger... yeah OK then. And they still have roughly the same physique in XIV, but they're weaker now?

They can't even get the magical elvaan right, either. The sun elves have 1 less INT, but 3 more PIE. Well WTF is with that? Who in their right mind is going to take a 3 point hit to magic accuracy for 1 more point of offense?

And that's my point. Rather than tweaking them for optimal stats one way or the other, a small handful are optimized while the rest are all half-assed semi-balanced. They only go halfway into 1 extreme, thus leaving you weak all around as you can't even take advantage of your own supposed strengths (High INT low PIE, High STR low DEX)

I believe that, at some point, we'll have customized our stats to match our choice in jobs and ability combinations. Sure, there will be people who absolutely NEED some sort of guide or build, and people will gladly hand them their opinions and call it the best, which WILL lead to arguing, but once you've customized your stats to your liking it doesn't matter how they started.

This is, in a lot of ways, exactly how Demon's Souls handled starting classes. They were all different in how they started, but it was up to you in how you grew.

Considering the diminishing returns on stat distributions, it's likely that you'll never really catch up with someone who picked a race with a "closer" stat distribution. Will those handful of stat points matter in any meaningful way? I sincerely doubt it, but that has never stopped people from discriminating.

The big difference here is that Demon's Souls doesn't dictate how you look based on your starting class (aside from defining your starting gear, which can be changed).

Choosing a race should be a purely aesthetic decision, and not colored by a (probably) meaningless perception of what race will "work better". Like TGM, I was sometimes put in the position of defending people who had made "sub-optimal" race/job choices on linkshell applications, and it's neither fun nor necessary.

S-E is dropping the ball here big time. Let people look like whatever they want, and play how they want, without handing them a laundry list of BS social baggage to go with it.
