You don't need to group up for behest (I mean partying up) but it's obviously far better if you do. You still get credit for kills and SP from other players even if not partied so it's not a mandate. It's only a big issue if you take on something that will kill you because no one would be able to help you. Of course, if you're there to leech SP off others, well, you take that risk that you'll get aggroed on first and die fast.

I consider the game to still be in its Beta form. It was released to early to be anything but Beta until 3 more months have passed.
