Re: Good argument for EXP handicap

There's no logical reason for a cap on the experience points you can earn in a set period. I don't care what spin the blind S-E loyalists seem to accept, the fact remains they're restricting your progression through content in an effort to prolong the life of their game and reduce the amount of developer time they need to utilize on content. S-E are just shit-scared the hardcore players blitz to max level in a few months (or less) and turn round and say, "So where the fuck is the endgame content S-E?" You just have to look at FFXI to see they're past masters at releasing unfinished content then drip-feeding it to the players over subsequent years, hi2u WoTG. I honestly feel like I'm losing my sanity when I see people defending this as a good idea or that it's a good thing for the casual player.

Re: Good argument for EXP handicap

Particularly when most casuals, as I've said many times already, are playing for fun. They don't give a shit if the rest of the world passes them by, they're casual players. CASUAL!!!! Good Christ it's like SE doesn't understand the meaning of that word.

So what if some people rush to the end? A few who do might get bored and leave, and there's bound to be the odd tard who's all butt hurt over others being further ahead but why should SE even remotely care? Quit concerning yourselves over the rate at people progress (not entirely but to a much lesser degree) and focus more on making the game interesting.

What the fuck happened to that promise of making something for everyone SE? I thought the guild leve system was the answer to casual players. Honestly, that seems the most ideal route to me. I love to multi-class, but usually in stages. As in, I'll play on my SAM for a good chunk of time, then maybe hit up SMN or whatever but on a schedule of my own choosing. I don't need SE telling me when to change it up, fuck right off with that nonsense tyvm.

Regarding me cancelling my pre-order of two collector's editions of the game yesterday:

and on a side note, its not a Fatigue system, if people would listen they would understand by now *shrugs* but what ever.
So "fatigue system" let me see if I understand most of this-

8 hours per week of grinding allotted per "job". You can then continue to grind post those 8 hours for 7 more hours until you will gain no xp AKA 15 hours per week maximum leveling per job - 7 of which are gimped xp (diminishing returns).

After that change jobs to keep playing.

What if I like to play casters and the paltry offering served up her by SE is lame? 2? Seriously. 2 caster classes... Epic.

So I can play a max of 16 hours per week at full efficacy but if I really wanna I can play an additional 14 hours with diminished xp...

All in the name of EGALITARIAN BULLSH*T.

The director himself has said the reason for this is to prevent people with a lot of free time from having an "advantage" over other players. What advantage is there to be had? "OMG I HIT lvl cap first!" I can really see how your personal achievement hurts me as a player... wait what? How about we thank higher level players for auctioning all those lower level items they didnt need/want so I could more effectively level! Are people dumb?

I play these games for community. For fun. And I play them a lot. I don't want the creators to shut me down just because they are afraid my sword of ownage +5 that I got from camping rare spawns all day is going to make them feel inferior. WHO CARES!?!?

People who played FF 11 are expecting a "hardcore" MMO experience that caters to the single player experience a bit more than FF11 did (no soloing. lol)... Nothing is really hardcore about playing 2 hours a day 4 times a week and then capping out "max efficacy" xp grinding time on your job.

        This whole thing is silly.

About the game being finished too Kailea. MMOs are really never finished. They just stop making content when people stop paying. Thats how it goes.

I would in the very least expect SE to have some common sense with the GUI and menus at launch though. WHat they have in game now makes FF 11 seem awesome! (Which was also unwieldy and cumbersome)

TGM - Yes I am sick of SE escapades where they wow us with fantastic graphics and seemingly fun gameplay... only to ruin it with socialist garbage that limits what I can achieve as a player in game. If I wanna play 8 hours as a gladiator- whatever. My subscription fee. My body. My life.

This is sad. It sickens me. And it is a dangerous first step toward the gaming companies and the government being able to limit what you do even in "fake" life now.

        ABSURD.

Sorry for the tirade. I just- this is insane and people need to realize it. Before you know it SE is going to take a pool of all players gil everday and divide it evenly so that no player has an advantage over the other...

Random loot drops? Those are out as they provide an unfair advantage to certain players.

Crafting procs? Out too. Too many hurt souls looking at my gladius +1.

Refute this. I dare you. Regardless of how the system is implemented the GOAL of SE is clear.

        EVEN STEVENS~~~! hahahah! /gigglesandrunsoffintoafield

I think people are jumping the gun on this system. I agree, in its current state, it looks poorly implemented but lets just wait and see the final product.

I do, however, find it slightly ironic they say the game caters to the casual player but the system requirements alone are going to repel many casual players for a while. /shrug

Community and length of your epeen are two separate categories of gameplay. If you play for the community, then you should have no qualms with this system.

This would fall more under fascism, minus the use of racism and fear to control the community.

In the parts where I say "wrong," you can easily find acceptable rebuttals in the plethora of interviews with Square-Enix -- either written or spoken.
And, no, I'm not going to explain it myself when you see this, rage, then quote me demanding it.

              Holy shit dude.

How about, people don't want fucking limitations placed on their playtime, their FUNtime. It's that goddamn simple. If I want to stuff myself full of Red Bull and No-Doz and order twelve pizzas and play for seventeen days straight, I should fucking be able to because it is my time. And aside from the time my boss says I have to be at work or else not work there anymore, my time is my fucking time.

What SE is or isn't doing with the damn surplus after it's taken from you isn't the damn point. The fact is, xp grinding becomes less effective as more time elapses, which is, like it or not, a limit on how people spend their time playing the game. You can stand here and tell me to level something else, go craft, go farm, go fish, whatever, but the point remains, If I don't want to do those things while I'm playing an MMO for which I'm paying, I should not be pigeonholed into doing so by SE or anyone else. Even joining linskhells for Dynamis is my personal choice - while the leadership sets the run times and dates, I am well within my right to quit doing Dynamis if I do not wish to keep doing it.

People do not want in-game limitations on their time. My time is limited enough.

I shouldn't need to explain something that's been explained in every interview subsequent of beta's announcement. Especially not to someone who is copying and pasting the same post and posting it in various threads on the topic.

I sent him in the direction of where to look for this (the interviews.) He should be perfectly capable of doing the rest. However, in the future, I will refrain from breaking up entire posts like I did.

It's ok to break up posts into separate quotes as long as you are contributing to the discussion with each one. But putting "Wrong." & "Wrong, because I like the word wrong." is more like trolling. That's why he suggested contributing more than just that.

I am aware it was more like trolling. However, I am deeply annoyed by the fact that no one seems to understand the system. Instead, they refuse to educate themselves on it, even with English interviews (translated by SE and not as a fan-service) presented to them.

But the other side isn't taking into account why people don't like the system. They refuse to understand that people have negative feelings about it. Also, there has been no detailed explanation from SE on how this system is going to fully work. So, while the people who feel negatively are speculating, so are the people that are pro-fatigue. We know we are speculating that we won't like it for various personal experiences/reasons and the pro people are speculating how it will be fully implemented by comparing it to other MMOs.

Well, maybe most people don't like being told they can only level for so many hours. If I want to grind, and I get into it, I don't want to have to stop for a week on that class. If I want to be gimped, let me be gimped! Its solo friendly, and I will level the way I want!

What TGM said. I realize the Aedan's post lent itself to quote-splitting like that (I have my own personal hang-ups with posts that have every sentence as its own paragraph, but thats my own thing) but saying "wrong" over and over is a good way to crank up the mud-slinging that's already taking place in this thread.

I get that SE has every right to put in this "surplus xp" system. I get that its not fully implemented yet and noone outside of SE knows exactly how its going to work. I even get that there will be some amount of people that think its a good thing. What I DON'T get is why the hell SE refuses to communicate more and help alleviate the seemingly overwhelming amount people's fears that this is likely to kill the game before it ever starts. Why is communication a bad thing? If how its working now isn't how it will be working in live, then why not explain to people how it will work. But if its even a shadow of how its intended to work then I don't see this as anything other than a terrible idea. Its been mentioned several times, WoW has the rested xp system that gives a bonus to the xp you get for killing creatures and that bonus extends the longer you spend logged off or in an inn or major city. Bonuses are a MUCH better way to entice someone to log off than are punishments. And forcing someone to play jobs they have no desire to play is a sure way to make sure a game isn't fun. SE doesn't have to change it, its their game they can do what they want. And I'm sure there are people who will love it all the same. But as I see it, at best, this system, as-is, will hurt the game. At worst it will make sure the game never sees its first expansion.

Yep, it's the same bs that SE pulled with FFXI. Communication is for sissys. They haven't learned anything and the consumer will be the ones that suffer for it.
