Re: Amazing recap of the state of FFXIV

    Wait, wait, wait.

Before you guys complained that FFXI was too time consuming and the AH was corrupted to the core by RMT.

Now you're complaining that FFXIV doesn't give you enough time to be a grind-monkey? That its a system that encourages a more realistic barter/trade economy and a job system that encourages more self-sufficiency?

You do realize if that we go back to an AH system we go right back to the same old RMT issues, right? When they have to actually compete with everyone else in a physical way, its harder for them to do real damage to the game economy because they're really going to have to compete.

Additionally, if I can raise a trade just like any job, then weapons, armor food and what have you are just going to be easier for me to make in the long run. If I can't find someone to do it for me, then I can be the one that handles it once I've got the materials. If you just want to be a melee character and nothing but, well, there's apparently a price to pay for that - you have to go shopping around.

This is a whole lotta over-reaction for a game that hasn't been released.

I'm just teasing you Etra. I totally did not read it slow enough (I skimmed it, tbh)

I never liked the AH system in FFXI ... I wanted SE to make it like WoW. That being said, are you prepared for the volley of spam over trade channel? And the trillions of oddly named naked characters standing around and lagging your character everywhere in the main cities? I know I wouldn't like it...

I disagree with this to a point. It was time consuming because soloing was shit and you were forced to find/start a party and then all kinds of crap could happen (people d/c, have to leave after getting to camp, can't find the right jobs, etc) which made it a long drawn out experience. Now if people would have been able to solo effectively and were complaining about how time consuming FFXI was, I would see the correlation, but the 2 do just not jive so it doesn't work.

I personally love to grind. I don't care if its solo or in a party, I just like it. I do not want someone telling me "ok you've had enough" when I feel like playing longer. I'm an adult, no one has to babysit my online habits. If I'm going to be "addicted" or however you want to label it, then thats my choice. It's my choice if I want to drink too much caffiene, smoke too many cigarettes, or get shit faced.....not saying its smart but it is my choice.

This. Well, everything except the "loving to grind" part, but it definitely has its moments. When I get into a groove and I'm really busting out the xp, I wanna keep going, not stop because the game decides I've had enough. If it were gambling at a casino and I were spending my life savings I could see it, but that monthly fee is going to be the same whether I xp for two hours or twenty.

What if the vendor you rent is one of a small amount, and it's basically separate smaller AHs?

Re: Amazing recap of the state of FFXIV

I use to play Ragnarok Online. I ended up joining a private server due to being a cheap bastard and wanting to breeze through the levels. This is irrelevant so on to my point; Ragnarok Online also had a bazaar system, the Merchant class could set up a shop with a little comment bar above it's head.

The original game's main city would be FILLED with these guys - you would lag everywhere. Being a private server, host had an idea to set up a separate zone for people to set down their mule vendors and people would browese - just like what FFXIV is doing!

What he did was better though, you could type in a command and the name of the item you were looking for, then it would give a list of people who were selling it and for what price. Simply enter the number of the person on the list and you'd teleport in front of their character; easy browsing.

Sooo yeah, SE should try something like that if they're so negative about putting an AH up. Except without the teleporting part, I guess.

And I don't mean to come off as a bitch. I frequent the MMORPG.com forums and often my posting habits on there carry on to here (many of the people on that site have to have smooth parts to their brain -- frustrating.)

Off topic, but was this a FLCL reference specifically, or . . . ?

You mean Prontera, and yeah it was sheer hell. I do not want to see this come back in HD for XIV. I like the concept of The Market wards, but so far in practice it's been less than stellar. For all the shit we had to deal with regarding RMT, I liked that in XI I just had to go to the AH and check under the categories for what I was looking for.

The only real big shortcoming of it was a lack of truly competitive pricing and people just abusing the sales history. If we could see who was selling what and for exactly how much (and god forbid maybe actually do some auctioning?) it would be dramatically better.

Morroc was awesome I loved the music there, and especially in the desert. Actually, iRO had damn good music all around, too bad there was nothing to do BUT grind and the odd PvP match.

In the previous version of the beta I got my Weaving up into the high teens and did manage to get some HQs. My observation was that anything with quality < 100 = standard synth. Anything with Quality >= 101 && < 200 resulted in a low chance of HQ (very low). Anything > 201 Quality or more resulted in a greater chance of HQ.

Hempen Cloth used to behave in the following way for me. Standard = 1 Hempen Cloth. HQ1 = 3 Hempen Cloth, HQ2 = 7 Hempen Cloth, HQ3 = 9 Hempen Cloth. I think I saw a HQ3, my skill wasn't high enough to get one but I am certain I definatly maybe saw one once, definatly possibly on another player who may or may not have actually been there.

I didn't have enough materials or time available to create a data set to determine the Quality to HQ1,HQ2, HQ3 ratios so take it with a pinch of salt. Also now in the current phase of beta people seem to be making synthesis that yeild billions of hempen cloths per synth, a very radical change from the way it was before.
