    Re: Kailea Nagisa: The Kitty Files

    I havent actually done crafting this phase, I spent almost the entire of the previous phase testing crafting so this time I spent my time trying out different jobs and party playing. I will take a look at it again next beta phase when I have more areas open to me and a proper weavers/carpenters guild to work from.

      Yeah even just the basic bronze ingot has a pretty low success rate unless you spam rapid synthesis... I failed 3/4 attempts and now I have to use up my own resources to finish the leve. What I found even more ridiculous was even though it's a leve, I couldn't initiate it at the aetheryte;

      Instead you go and speak to the NPC, who gives you the mats then you go to synthesis and then requested. Well wtf? I'm glad there were kind people on last night to direct me as to what to do as I was pretty lost when the aetheryte kept telling me that I had no leves for that area when I did.

      I mean wtf, I thought leves were separate from traditional quests, so why am I handling it like one?

      Well, at least the one successful attempt gave me like 1300+ Smithing EXP and rank 2.

      I really like this new system, it just needs some tweaking. Chiefly the drop rate on freaking crystals, what the hell SE? At least in XI you could just get signet, go out and kill shit and wham you'd have plenty of crystals and ingredients in no time. I don't much care for the market wards either, I hope they have something better planed.

        Nice SS's. Good info on the state of crafting so far.

          Re: Kailea Nagisa: The Kitty Files

          So I decided to give a bunch of classes a whirl today as phase 3 is done soon and there's maint tomorrow @.@;

          Here are my findings;

          Crafting is a lot more complicated than it was in XI. First off, crystals are much harder to come by now, but hopefully they will introduce some kind of signet effect for XIV at retail to make it easier. As it stands you have to just farm specific mobs endlessly, or go harvesting and hope you get some shards. There are also elemental rocks you can dig up while mining but no one seems to know how to use them just yet.

          When you go to synthesize, you have the option of using your main hand or offhand tool. No idea what difference this makes, if any so far but I always choose main (there are a LOT of new stats on items for which there is absolutely zero explanation for such as control and output)

          You begin with only 3 basic commands during synthesis; Standard, Rapid and Bold synthesis. Rapid puts emphasis on efficiency, raising the progress bar significantly while only losing a small bit of durability if it succeeds. Bold sacrafices durability for quality; the higher the quality by the time you hit 100% (IF you hit 100% - there are no more random breaks it's skill based this time) the better the chance of HQ.

          Now, the game was telling me while I was synthing that you need to pay attention and use the right techniques; I tend to just spam Rapid because it works out pretty well however I'd like to learn how to craft properly. For instance, occasionally one of the elements you are using to synth with will become unstable and even chaotic. This is usually displayed by a sudden burst of energy and sometimes an explosion after synthing. On top of the chat log, these are visual cues letting you know to try a different technique.

          I can't wait for someone to figure all this out after retail. You also have HQ ingredients now, up to +3 (could be higher idk) and interestingly enough, they don't sell for any higher to NPCs. I haven't had a chance to synth with any yet, so I've no clue what they do. They could be for increasing chances of an HQ, or they could add more durability or even both.

          For all the confusion and bugs, I really do enjoy crafting and even harvesting in XI. It'll be a lot better once this is all sorted out and we have in-depth guides. I'll post more on gathering in the morning.

            You also have to look at the color of the little glowy ball thingy, its color and looks also give hints on what "status" your item is in,I don't know all of the details though, but there are also the books that you can get from guild points, that will help make things as well.

              Those just increase your chances of success I think, they don't actually give you tips.

              I kinda miss that about XI, where the guild staff would tell you what recipes are ideal for your current skill/rank. However, it is interesting to note that even at level 5 blacksmithing, a rank 0 recipe can still give a good chunk of Smithing EXP. I would imagine that will eventually taper off, or higher level recipes will give even more as I doubt SE intends for us to simply grind low level recipes endlessly (though just having that as an option is kinda cool)

                  Re: Kailea Nagisa: The Kitty Files

                  Just looked at the new pics and noticed that is quite a bit of HP/MP for a starting character comparatively speaking to FFXI characters. Yes, I know, this is not FFXI. What's the highest level any of y'all have gotten in XIV and what was the HP/MP? Once again, I know it's not XI and it's customizable as you level what you put your stats into. I'm just curious to get an idea. I'm like a starving dog over here not being in closed beta, gimme a bone.

                    I agree.

                    Too bad SE hasn't tossed anymore bones to us for a while. I wanted to know more about these "extra classes like the Fencer...

                    On a side note...

                    I like how the emotes look. Much more life like this time around.

                        I prefer your second kitty, me-ow.

                        I just realized too, a very important question I forgot to ask... Can you attack with crafting weapons? Like that pickaxe?

                            no you cant, when you are a crafting class, the only attack you have (atleast in beta) is "throw stone" lol ;p

                              Oh yeah can you explain what the hell "Unable to verify affinity" freaking means?

                              The game wouldn't let me use any offensive skills on my Miner, and I could set Cure while playing Thaumaturge but it wouldn't let me set Exaltation (from Thaum) while on Conjurer... that could have just been because they don't want you having both of the MP restore abilities but frig come on they are each on 30 min timers >_>

                                has to do with level, you have to be the same level Miner to use cure, as you are Thung....atleast I think that's how it works, I have not leveled two combat classes yet.
