    Re: Recommended System Specs

My old Acer Aspire got a 30 on low res benchmark. My new PC (i7, GTX260 1.8GB, 8G ram, 1TB HDD) got a 3600 on low res.

      Re: Recommended System Specs

Don't keep placing your hopes and dreams in that shitty benchmark.

My parts are over 2 years old now, and I knocked the graphics down to standard last night and FPS jumped up to 70. I know I've probably posted my specs here already, but:
      Intel Core2 Duo 3.0GHz
      2GB RAM
      Asus Radeon HD4850 512MB

I scored on the lower side of barely running during the Benchmark, and now I'm getting fantastic framerate in the Beta... well, fantastic compared to my 20 during Alpha. And the game still looks gorgeous running at Standard settings.

        Re: Recommended System Specs

I had a reverse situation. I used the benchmark @ high settings (1920 x 1280) and got a 3200ish score and everything seemed to be running at around 40+ FPS.

I hop into the beta with things set on high (except for shadows) and my rig absolutely crapped out on me. It was unplayable and extremely choppy to where I couldn't even log myself out or do much of anything. I turned it down a bit more and it was still probably around 20FPS if that.

I do wonder though, is the menu tied into the game's framerate again, a la FFXI?

I totally agree. I am updating my graphics card and frankly I don't even want to do that. I just built the damn thing earlier this year. If I needed more than that, I'd wait until the PS3 version was released.

How this game runs right now is probably somewhat different than when the server load goes up. I would like to hear from everyone once open beta starts and we see how our computers are running then.

                Re: Recommended System Specs

I'm looking at upgrading my CPU and GPU to run FFXIV better, since currently it can barely run the benchmark. Right now I have this:

                Motherboard: ASUS 770 ATX
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 640 GB
                RAM: G Skill 8 GB
                CPU: AMD 3.1 GHz Dual-Core
                GPU: nVidia 8800 GT
                PSU: Zalman 750w
                OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Looking at upgrading to the following:

ASUS M4A77D AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
                AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 125W Quad-Core Processor

                EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470

Keeping everything else the same. That should work, shouldn't it? I built this computer about two and a half years ago, been running pretty good...

I hear that the 470 runs hot so make sure you are on top of cooling too. Sounds like it should run FFXIV to me.

Hmm... good to know. I have four fans in my (rather large) case, so there should be good air movement, though I don't have anything fancy like a liquid cooling system. Would that be sufficient?

                      Re: Recommended System Specs

One thing I always recommend to people is a fan that vents on the top of the pc or at least the top rear. Heat rises so it really benefits to have one there. Also have an intake fan on the low end, this helps with air flow. Make sure the fans are at least 80mm though you might want to go with a 120 mm for 1 intake/1 exhaust/both. Really depends on the fan too and how much noise they make and how much you can put up with. Back in the day fans were damn noisy and my pc was nicknamed O'Hare (after the airport). And 2 fans are a starting point, you said you have 4 so check the sizes of the fans and placement first. If you are really concerned there are vga coolers, my son uses a Zalman one I believe.

                        Re: Recommended System Specs

                        These are my specs,

                        32bit Windows Vista
                        Intel Core 2 @ 2.40GHz, 2.39GHz
                        1.2GB RAM
                        NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE

And all I get out of the benchmark is a logo and empty score box. I'm not very computer savvy so I'unno... I'm thinking with a new graphics card and some more RAM, I can get SOMETHING to show up?

Probably better off sticking with my original plan, buying a PS3 and bypassing all the hassle.

                          Re: Recommended System Specs

You're running Vista with only 1(.2? Odd number...) GB? That's... wow, that's really low. Vista itself is currently taking up 300 MB(0.3 GB) on my computer right now, and that is just idling. Throw in Firefox, Steam and a few other misc. applications as well, and it's 500 MB. I'm not a computer expert, but I know there is no way you could run FFXIV on half a gig of RAM. So yeah... definitely going to need an upgrade there, probably to at least 3 GB.

That video card looks rather weak, too. The problem I see here is that it is unlikely that you can use a higher video card with your current power supply, since higher cards use a lot more power. Insufficient power to a graphics card can fry your computer(I had that happen...)

Might need a CPU upgrade as well, but I'm not certain of that. You might be able to run low settings with a 2.4 dual-core. Of course, a new CPU might need a new motherboard to go along with it...

Yeah, not sure where the extra 200 MB comes from, this computer was a hand-me-down.

BUT OH WELLL~ Hell no I'm not going to bother with it then; PS3 it is. Hell, I don't even know the first thing about properly upgrading. I should go hit the library...

Make sure that the hot air is actually being removed. All the fans in the world won't help if they're not pushing the air out of the case, and if the case is itself in hot air. I'm sure you're not stuffing your PC into a locked cabinet, but it does need some breathing room. I've heard of people that managed to get some very nice fans in their case, and still have heat problems because they didn't set them up very well; they had air moving, but it was still hot air.

Feba is absolutely right, placement of your pc can affect your core temp. Unfortunately I have to put my pc in an area with little air flow. I've put 6 fans in my case with additional coolers. I don't have the option of placing it anywhere else in the room so I have to put up with a bit more noise. I will say that the extra fans are very quiet though, I can actually sleep with the pc on.

I really need to put my Lian Li server case up on Ebay or something. Took that down a while ago, I just don't have the time or energy anymore.
